The DigiSchool Project: A Leap Towards Digital Education in Morocco
In December 2024, Huawei celebrated the successful conclusion of the DigiSchool 2024 initiative in Morocco, marking a pivotal advancement in the nation’s educational landscape. This project, launched in February 2024, aimed to equip young learners with essential digital skills, preparing them for a rapidly globalizing world. At its core, DigiSchool embodies Huawei's commitment to making digital inclusivity a reality, aligning with the Moroccan government’s education reform roadmap set for 2022-2026.
Partnership for Progress
The partnership between Huawei and Morocco's Ministry of National Education illustrates the effectiveness of public-private collaborations. David Li, CEO of Huawei Morocco, stated, "The DigiSchool project emphasizes the significance of enhancing digital skills while strengthening public-private partnerships to foster a resilient digital ecosystem." This initiative is part of Huawei's global TECH4ALL strategy which focuses on providing equitable digital access to underprivileged communities.
The DigiSchool initiative had four distinct phases aimed at maximizing training and student engagement across various technological fields such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and app development. Each phase was meticulously designed to address specific training needs, ensuring that both teachers and students receive comprehensive support throughout the learning process.
Phased Implementation
1.
Phase One involved training 265 secondary school teachers across twelve regions in Morocco, focusing on ICT skills. This foundational step laid the groundwork for the subsequent phases, wherein trained teachers would disseminate knowledge effectively.
2. In
Phase Two, a sustained support system for the trained teachers was established, impacting approximately 2,650 students. This reiterative learning framework allowed teachers to leverage their newfound training in real classroom settings, enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes.
3. The
third phase, rolled out from May to November 2024, featured a series of 12 regional hackathons. Attended by 714 students, these events challenged participants to devise innovative ICT solutions to real-world problems, injecting a spirit of creative problem-solving into the learning experience.
4. Finally,
Phase Four culminated in a series of technology boot camps held in Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir. Here, 180 students collaborated with 60 teachers to refine their ICT skills and showcase the solutions they developed during the hackathons. Personalized support helped teams to polish their projects, resulting in competitive presentations to a panel of judges vested in educational progress.
Celebrating Achievement
The conclusion of DigiSchool 2024 was marked by a comprehensive evaluation tour in Agadir, featuring distinguished members of the Moroccan government and Huawei executives, including Minister of National Education Mohamed Saad Berrada. Students had the opportunity to highlight their learned competencies by demonstrating the innovative projects they developed throughout the program.
The success of the DigiSchool initiative not only underscores Morocco’s commitment to digital transformation and equitable education but also places the country as a regional leader in utilizing technology as a vehicle for change. Such endeavors reflect the strategic objectives of both the Moroccan government and Huawei to bridge educational gaps via digital means.
Huawei remains dedicated to implementing similar projects globally, including ongoing initiatives in Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile, and China, striving to connect remote schools to the internet and enhance digital literacy among students and teachers.
