Shinagawa Survival Camp: A Hands-On Approach to Disaster Preparedness
In recent years, Japan has faced an increase in large-scale disasters, making local community resilience a critical focus. The concepts of self-help, mutual assistance, and public aid have never been more relevant. However, participation in disaster training is dwindling, especially among younger individuals and families. Addressing this issue, the Tokyo Junior Chamber, Shinagawa District Committee, has announced the
Shinagawa Survival Camp, an exciting, hands-on event designed for families, scheduled for June 28, 2026, at Nishi-Oi 6-chome Fureai Plaza in Shinagawa, Tokyo.
This innovative initiative, supervised by the Japan 72-hour Survival Education Association, aims to provide practical workshops that parents and children can engage in together. Participants will learn vital survival skills such as fire-making, water purification, first aid, and even setting up a makeshift toilet, ensuring that they are well-equipped for emergencies.
The camp's overarching goal is to nurture a sense of initiative and decision-making among attendees, encouraging all ages to consider disaster preparedness as a personal responsibility. This event not only educates but also strengthens community ties by bringing together local organizations, students, government, and businesses in a unified effort.
With limited spots available for only 40 participants, attendees are promised deep learning and real-life experiences that highlight a new paradigm in local disaster preparedness efforts.
