Exploring the Global Locality of Books: The 2025 Tokyo Publishing Symposium

Introduction

The landscape of publishing is rapidly changing, and it is crucial to understand how books and reading relate to communities on a global scale. The upcoming 2025 Tokyo Publishing Symposium, hosted by Honnogakko, intends to foster discussions around these themes. This event promises to delve deep into the local and global intersections of literature, culture, and technology.

Background

Founded in 1995 at the base of Mt. Daisen in Tottori, Honnogakko aims to bring individuals from various backgrounds together to discuss pressing issues in the realm of publishing. The symposium's early years revolved around the theme of envisioning a 21st-century publishing landscape that originated from local contexts. Now, we find ourselves 30 years later, faced with a more interconnected world where local narratives have the potential to reach audiences globally.
