Ivo's Superior Performance in AI-Powered Contract Review Demonstrated, Leaving Claude Behind

Ivo Outperforms Claude for Word in Independent Contract Review Assessment

In a recent independent study, Ivo, the AI-driven contract intelligence platform, has showcased its superior capabilities in contract review by outperforming Claude for Word in a competitive analysis conducted by legal professionals. This achievement highlights Ivo's proficiency in handling complex legal documents at scale, which is crucial for enterprise legal teams focusing on efficiency and quality in their operations.

The benchmark study, which took place in April 2026, aimed to provide clarity on the abilities of AI tools in legal workflows, particularly in the area of contract review—the bulk of work handled by in-house legal teams. Given the increasing adoption of AI in legal settings, this study sought to address two fundamental questions: Can AI tools reliably manage real contract tasks effectively? And how do general AI tools compare to specialized legal systems in practicality?

Study Overview

The evaluation pitted Ivo against Claude for Word (Opus 4.6) and a practicing Special Counsel from an Am Law 25 firm, all reviewing the same set of 19 real, anonymized contracts. These contracts included a variety of commercial agreement types such as Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and Data Processing Agreements (DPAs). The performance of each participant was blinded and scored by a panel of three legal experts who are experienced technology transaction attorneys. The output quality was examined using five specific criteria: Issue Spotting, Surgical Redlining, Formatting Retention, Judgment, and Comments.

Results Summary

The outcome of the study revealed the following scores:
  • - Human attorney: 4.56 out of 10
  • - Ivo: 4.52 out of 10
  • - Claude for Word: 3.50 out of 10

Remarkably, while the human attorney completed the review of the 19 contracts in roughly 10 hours, Ivo managed to analyze a single contract in an average of 2 minutes and 45 seconds. In contrast, Claude took around 4 minutes and 53 seconds per contract, indicating a clear efficiency advantage for Ivo.

Insights from the Study

According to Min-Kyu Jung, Co-founder and CEO of Ivo, this benchmark was crafted to provide a valid method for measuring AI's effectiveness in legal tasks.
