Hankook Concludes 2026 WRC Season with Incredible Rally Italia Sardegna Finale

Hankook's Spectacular Finish at the 2026 WRC Season

The World Rally Championship (WRC) reached a thrilling conclusion at the Rally Italia Sardegna, where Hankook Tire & Technology solidified its role as the exclusive tire provider for this prestigious competition. The event, held around the scenic town of Alghero in Sardinia, Italy, marked a remarkable end to the 2026 WRC season.

From October 1 to October 4, 2026, the rally showcased intense competition across 17 Special Stages, covering an incredible total of 307.02 kilometers. The timing of the event, falling in October, brought unique challenges — particularly unpredictable weather patterns that tested both drivers and equipment.

Challenging Conditions and Iconic Terrain

The narrow, winding roads in Sardinia, framed by lush vegetation and steep drops, presented various obstacles that made the competition especially demanding. High-risk elements, such as Micky's Jump, provided memorable moments, offering both excitement and danger. Drivers navigated through repeated ruts and jagged rocks, which underscored the critical importance of high-quality tires.

To meet these challenges, Hankook deployed its high-performance Dynapro R213 all-terrain rally tires. Specifically designed for gravel terrains, these tires were formulated according to the varying surface conditions and climate during the event — a move that undoubtedly contributed to the teams’ performances.

The Champions Crowned

After a fiercely contested rally, Oliver Solberg from the Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team claimed victory, marking his second consecutive win following a triumph at Rally Chile Biobío. His teammates, Sébastien Ogier and Sami Pajari, rounded out the podium in second and third places, respectively.

At this finale, Toyota had already secured the Manufacturers' Championship just prior at Chile Biobío, setting the stage for a competitive showdown. Notably, Elfyn Evans emerged as the 2026 WRC Drivers' Champion, having finished fifth in the Sardinia rally, ultimately clinching the title with 243 points, just five points ahead of Solberg. This accomplishment marked a significant highlight for Evans, achieving his first championship title in his WRC career.

A Season of Innovation

Throughout the 2026 racing season, Hankook played a pivotal role as the exclusive tire supplier in every event, showcased in various weather conditions ranging from snow and ice to rocky gravel. This season has allowed Hankook to gather invaluable driving data from extreme rally conditions, which will be used in their research and development efforts. The tire manufacturer aims to enhance its technological capabilities further, ensuring they remain a dominant player in the high-performance tire market.

As Hankook looks forward, it plans to continue validating its tire products across a multitude of global motorsport stages, fortifying its status as a top-tier brand known for quality and performance. In conclusion, the Rally Italia Sardegna not only highlighted Hankook’s impressive capabilities but also set the stage for future innovations in tire technology supporting the demanding world of motorsports.
