NIJIN Academy: A New Educational Era
In November 2025, NIJIN Academy will unveil its latest branch, the Koto Oshima Campus, located within the YF Programming School in Koto City, Tokyo. This alternative education facility aims to provide a safe and innovative learning environment for children who have been absent from school. With the theme of "learning the universal language of programming," NIJIN Academy is transforming how education is perceived, particularly for students struggling with traditional school settings.
The Rise of Alternative Education
As the number of school-refusing elementary and middle school students continues to rise—hitting a record high of 346,482 by 2024—there’s an urgent need for creating learning spaces where children can thrive. NIJIN Academy is designed for this purpose, allowing students to access quality education remotely, establishing itself as a vital option for families nationwide. Since its inception in September 2023, over 500 students have enrolled, with 150 successfully returning to traditional schooling.
NIJIN Academy collaborates with local governments and various institutions to ensure the educational needs of these children are met. Students have expressed a desire to remain at NIJIN Academy rather than return to conventional schools, highlighting an emerging trend towards hybrid learning models that combine online and in-person education. The Koto Oshima Campus is the latest initiative to accommodate diverse learning preferences.
