Fractus and Verizon Settle Patent Litigation to Foster Innovation in IoT Connectivity
Fractus and Verizon Reach Settlement Over Patent Dispute
In an important development for the connectivity industry, Fractus, a pioneer in antenna technology and intellectual property licensing, announced the resolution of its patent litigation against Verizon. This agreement, concluded on March 25, 2026, effectively addresses the claims filed in December 2024 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
The lawsuit centered around patent infringement claims regarding Fractus' proprietary antenna innovations, vital for delivering robust Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. The technology at stake primarily supports connected vehicles and fleet management systems, highlighting the critical role that antennas play in the performance of IoT devices across various sectors, including smart homes, industrial IoT, and asset tracking.
Fractus' patented antenna technologies are designed to enable compact, high-performance, multi-band antennas that can operate under challenging conditions and strict size constraints. This proprietary design approach has been instrumental in advancing the IoT industry, satisfying diverse connectivity demands across a wide range of applications.
Jordi Ilario, CEO of Fractus, expressed satisfaction with the settlement and reaffirmed the company's commitment to safeguarding its intellectual property while fostering a competitive marketplace that rewards innovation. Ilario stated, "We are pleased to have reached a resolution with Verizon. Fractus remains dedicated to protecting its intellectual property and ensuring a level playing field for companies that respect innovation."
Adding to Ilario’s sentiments, Rubén Bonet, Executive Chairman of Fractus, emphasized that the advancements in connectivity are fundamentally linked to innovative antenna technologies. He noted that Fractus’ inventions have significantly contributed to the evolution of wireless devices within the IoT ecosystem. "We will continue to defend our patented technologies and collaborate constructively with organizations that acknowledge the importance of intellectual property rights."
The original lawsuit filed against both Verizon and Geotab included two cases, claiming unauthorized use of Fractus' patented technologies which are essential for enhanced connectivity solutions in fleet management, asset tracking, and aftermarket telematics.
Fractus has built a strong reputation within the IoT sector, holding a patent portfolio encompassing over 40 inventions. Recognized for its groundbreaking work, Fractus was honored as a technology pioneer by the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2005 and has received various accolades, including being finalists for the European Inventor Award in 2014 and winners of the “Inspirational European Company” award bestowed by the London Stock Exchange in April 2017.
This settlement signifies a positive step forward for both Fractus and Verizon, potentially paving the way for future collaborations that will further push the boundaries of IoT connectivity and antenna technology. As the demand for innovative IoT solutions grows, partnerships rooted in mutual respect for intellectual property will be crucial in driving the industry forward.
As Fractus continues to protect and innovate its antenna technologies, it invites others in the industry to align with its vision for a future where connectivity is seamless and reliable across various platforms and applications, ensuring that consumers benefit from the latest advancements in IoT technology.
