Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pioneers: Living Out Palm Springs Stonewall Day Event

Celebrating Trailblazers at Living Out Palm Springs

On June 28, 2025, Living Out Palm Springs will host a memorable event in tribute to Stonewall Day, recognizing four influential figures in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. This celebration will honor Carl Bean, Connie Norman, Phyllis Lyon, and Del Martin—individuals whose legacies have shaped the fight for equality.

A Tribute to Iconic Leaders

The event will commence with a ceremony at 1 PM to honor these trailblazers. Carl Bean, a gospel singer and founder of the Unity Fellowship Church Movement, dedicated his life to creating a spiritual sanctuary for LGBTQ+ individuals within Christianity. Connie Norman, known for her relentless activism, fought for the rights of marginalized communities and worked tirelessly to raise awareness about AIDS. Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, iconic figures in the lesbian rights movement, made history as the first same-sex couple to be legally married in California and co-founded the Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian rights organization in the United States.

Loren Ostrow, the visionary developer behind Living Out, stated, "We are honored to recognize these pioneers, whose lives made Living Out possible. Their stories inspire unity, resilience, and pride—values we hold dear." In addition to the honors, Living Out will dedicate neighborhoods in their residential community to each of these remarkable individuals.

Art Walk and Community Celebration

Following the ceremony, starting at 2 PM, an Art Walk will open to the public, featuring more than 300 original pieces by LGBTQ+ artists from the Coachella Valley and beyond. This revolving exhibition aims to celebrate artistic expression while fostering community connections. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a wide array of artworks, each telling its own unique story in support of LGBTQ+ culture and pride.

Valet parking will be available, and guests can indulge in refreshing beverages at Alice B., Living Out's signature restaurant and bar. In honor of Stonewall Day, a special cocktail and various drinks celebrating LGBTQ+ culture will be served, adding an extra festive touch to this significant occasion.
