Vivid Sydney 2025: A Festival That Invites Dreams
One of Australia's most renowned events,
Vivid Sydney, is set to captivate audiences once again as it returns from
May 23 to June 14, 2025. This year's theme,
Dream, sparks curiosity and contemplation about the essence of dreaming itself.
The festival will transform Sydney into a vibrant hub of creativity for 23 nights, featuring an array of breathtaking light installations, musical performances, engaging ideas, and culinary experiences that attract visitors from all corners of the globe. As it enters its fifteenth year, Vivid Sydney 2025 promises an unforgettable winter experience, highlighting Australia's cultural capital.
Excitingly, over
75% of the festival's program, including the entire light walk, will be free to the public. The light walk will showcase cutting-edge projection and animation technologies, featuring distinctive artworks such as
'Kiss of Light' by Australian artist
David McDiarmid, which will illuminate the iconic Sydney Opera House, and
'King Dingo' by
Vincent Namatjira projected onto the Museum of Contemporary Art. Additionally, fashion brand
Romance Was Born will present
'House of Romance' on Customs House.
Celebrated chef
Nigella Lawson will host three exclusive dining events during Vivid Sydney in the spectacular
Muru Giligu Tunnel. Commenting on her participation, Lawson expressed, "Having loved Vivid Food for years, it’s a tremendous joy to feature in its program."
Returning for another year, the popular
Vivid Fire Kitchen and
Chef Series will also honor the culinary richness of New South Wales with their delightful offerings. The festival's
'Ideas' program will spotlight thought leaders from around the globe, including
D.W. Pine, creative director of
TIME magazine, alongside sleep expert
Professor Matthew Walker.
For fans of
Stranger Things, the festival will debut the
Netflix series' immersive experience at Luna Park in Sydney, created by the same minds behind the show. Musical highlights include concerts featuring international artists such as
Anohni and The Johnsons,
Beth Gibbons from
Portishead,
Sigur Rós performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and
Japanese Breakfast. Free concerts at
Tumbalong Nights will showcase a mix of international acts and local talents.

Festival Director
Gill Minervini elaborated on the theme of dreams, suggesting its universal significance: "Dreaming is as timeless as life itself. Dreams can be prophetic, transformative, and inspiring, yet they can also be trivial, comical, or even frightening. This year's program will encompass these experiences in various forms."

Key Partnerships
Returning as a main partner this year is
Samsung, which will host a spectacular light and water show at
Cockle Bay Wharf. Other official partners include
Estée Lauder, marking its second consecutive year, and
Ausgrid, which will manage the
Tumbalong Nights program.
Airbnb continues its community partnership with Vivid Sydney, supporting the volunteer program, and the
charitable partner for 2025 is the
Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation.
