Gareth Parker-Jones Appointed as Founding Headmaster

In a significant development in the field of education, Gareth Parker-Jones has been appointed as the founding headmaster of Wellington College International Kenya, set to debut in September 2028. Parker-Jones, a highly respected educator from the UK, will take on this pivotal role starting from September 2027, a full year ahead of the school's grand opening. His appointment underscores a commitment to deliver exceptional educational experiences in one of Africa's most innovative cities, Tatu City.

Accompanying him in this educational venture will be his wife, Amanda Parker-Jones, who has been designated as the head of teacher development at the institution. This collaborative effort emphasizes the family's shared dedication to educational excellence.

Expanding the Wellington College Network

Wellington College International Kenya, developed by Rendeavour, a leader in urban development across Africa, represents the second educational institution in the Wellington College network on the continent. This initiative parallels the successful Wellington College International Lagos and contributes to a wider network of 12 prestigious British schools located not just in the UK but also in regions such as China, Thailand, India, Indonesia, and the United States.

Situated on a sprawling 5,000-acre site in Tatu City, the school will cater to students aged 3 to 18, offering both day and boarding options. The location is designed to attract both local and international families, providing a learning environment amidst stunning natural beauty, lush parks, scenic coffee plantations, and a variety of amenities that enhance student life.

A Vision for World-Class Education

Parker-Jones expressed enthusiasm about the venture, highlighting that Wellington College International Kenya aims to provide an unparalleled educational offering backed by the esteemed Wellington brand. He remarked, “This initiative represents a compelling opportunity in international education; to lead such a prestigious institution fills me with pride.”

James Dahl, the 15th headmaster of Wellington College, warmly welcomed Parker-Jones into the educational family, noting his transformative impact at Rugby School, where he raised standards and built a thriving network of schools. Dahl stated, “Wellington College International Kenya could not be in better hands.”

A New Milestone in Kenyan Education

The establishment of Wellington Kenya not only reflects the ambition of its founders but also signals a significant advancement in educational options for families in the region. With a strong emphasis on holistic education, the school will integrate the boarding experience into its identity from day one, ensuring that every student receives a well-rounded education that adheres to rigorous excellence standards synonymous with Wellington College.

Stephen Jennings, the founder and CEO of Rendeavour, asserted that securing a founding director of Parker-Jones's caliber highlights their ambitious goals for the school. He expressed confidence that the couple would be ideal leaders to forge one of the world's foremost educational institutions in East Africa. Jennings stated, “Great cities thrive around extraordinary institutions. By establishing a top-tier education center, we aim to attract families, businesses, and long-term investments to the region.”

The vision for Wellington Kenya is clear: to foster a learning community that intertwines Wellington's global educational legacy with a robust local identity, serving families across the region for generations to come.

As the countdown to the school’s opening begins, excitement is building around the prospect of elevating the standards of education in Kenya. With Parker-Jones at the helm, Wellington College International Kenya is poised to become a beacon of educational excellence within East Africa.
