The Mobile World Congress (MWC) took place in Barcelona recently, showcasing the latest advancements in information and communication technology (ICT). Among the many exhibitors was Globe Telecom, Inc., a leading telecommunications and digital solutions provider from the Philippines. Senior executives from Globe actively participated in discussions aimed at driving digital transformation in emerging markets, with a particular focus on the unique challenges faced by the Philippines.
The presence of Globe's top leaders at MWC underscores their commitment to not only advancing telecommunications in the Philippines but also contributing to the global discourse on technology and innovation. Globe's President and CEO, Ernest Cu, alongside Deputy CEO Carl Cruz, engaged with other industry leaders and stakeholders, forming partnerships essential for addressing pressing issues within the telecom sector.
One of the most significant outcomes of their participation was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among several Philippine telecom operators for the implementation of federated CAMARA APIs, part of the GSMA’s Open Gateway initiative. This initiative aims to standardize application programming interfaces (APIs) for enhanced interoperability among telecom networks. By deploying these CAMARA APIs, Globe aims to improve security measures against fraud and simplify the creation and expansion of digital solutions across networks, ultimately facilitating growth for industries such as fintech and e-commerce.
Cu emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, "Globe remains dedicated to advancing digital innovation while prioritizing customer security. This partnership marks a major step in enhancing fraud prevention and identity verification in the Philippines. By leveraging GSMA Open Gateway and federating CAMARA APIs, we can create a safer and more seamless digital experience, empowering both businesses and consumers in today's fast-evolving digital landscape."
Globe's participation at MWC was not limited to formal agreements. Ernest Cu also attended his first GSMA Board Meeting during the event, where he highlighted Globe's effective strategies in combating digital scams and fraud. Furthermore, Deputy CEO Carl Cruz contributed to a session at the GTI Summit 2025, sharing insights on the future of connectivity through the convergence of 5G and artificial intelligence (AI). His address centered around the 5G-A×AI 100 Commercial Campaign, which seeks to foster collaboration among over 100 partners and develop various lighthouse projects in the forthcoming years.
Cruz stated, "Globe is focused on strengthening connectivity, driving inclusive growth through initiatives like JuanSim ng Bayan, expanding 5G access, and making fiber internet more affordable. By working closely with industry partners and the government, we are building a future where every Filipino can fully participate in the digital economy and benefit from AI-driven innovation."
Through their active involvement at MWC 2025, Globe Telecom reaffirms its leadership in the Philippine telecom sector while playing a pivotal role in promoting digital inclusion. Their efforts are aimed at ensuring that advancements in technology benefit all Filipinos, thereby aiding the nation's digital transformation as it adapts to the global technological landscape.
