Exciting Call of the Abyss IX Japan Qualifiers Ends with Arneb and AXIZ in a Nail-Biting Showdown

An Intense Clash at Call of the Abyss IX

On March 15, the CALL OF THE ABYSS IX (COA IX) Japanese qualifiers reached an electrifying climax during DAY 9. The spotlight was on the decisive MATCH 6, where the formidable team, Arneb with WoG (AWG), faced off against their long-standing rival, AXIZWAVE (AXIZ), for the coveted ticket to the world finals.

As seasoned competitors, AWG has often found themselves on the losing side against AXIZ in prior tournaments, making this encounter a brewing storm of emotions and anticipation. The match commenced with an uphill battle for AWG, as they struggled to secure an early advantage. In the first two sets, the AXIZ hunter, kakiri, displayed astonishing skills, employing exceptional tracking abilities that placed AWG at a significant disadvantage. As a result, AWG fell into a troubling deficit, losing both sets in quick succession.

However, the tide of the match began to shift during the third set. Newly added player keserabi made his mark as the new Survivor, utilizing the Illusionist adeptly to evade the Goods Merchant. His performance sparked a surge of momentum for AWG, allowing them to clinch their first set of the match. With the morale boosted, the team entered the fourth set, where their representative yukakina demonstrated remarkable resilience. After successfully defending the cipher machines, yukakina achieved a crucial three-hook victory, leveling the match as both teams headed into the final set on equal footing.

In a gripping showdown, AWG's hunter yukakina took the lead in the final set, deploying the loyal companion Guard No. 26, Bonbon, to initiate an offensive strategy. The match heated up as they managed to hook the Mechanic early, pushing AXIZ down to a three-player scenario. Though it appeared that victory was within grasp, AXIZ’s survivors showcased impressive coordination, staving off defeat through strategic plays. Despite yukakina's best efforts to leverage teleportation for offensive positioning, the AXIZ team successfully transitioned from defense to strike, eventually securing a timely rescue that allowed all survivors to escape.

As the match unfolded, the pressure mounted on AWG's remaining Survivor team members, who were now faced with the daunting task of forcing four eliminations. They battled fiercely, supported by a dedicated group of fans providing unwavering encouragement. Alas, despite their determination and effort, AWG ultimately lost the final set, once again tasting defeat at the hands of their adversary AXIZ.

In a match characterized by close calls and moments of brilliance from both sides, AXIZ sealed the last ticket to COA IX, while AWG reflected on their journey. The teams set to represent Japan at the finals consist of ZETA and REJECT, who entered as seeds, alongside the qualifiers DFM, FENEL, and AXIZ. This tournament marks a historical moment for AWG, missing out on the opportunity to compete in the world finals for the first time after successfully qualifying in the previous two editions, COA VII and COA VIII.

In the aftermath, AWG members conveyed their sentiments, stating, “While the result is disheartening, we showcased to our fans that AWG never gives up. Our players fought valiantly, and there are no regrets. We are now focused on preparing for the IJL Summer and Autumn competitions starting at the end of May.” They expressed gratitude toward their supporters and vowed to seek revenge in their next encounters.
