Kutch Copper Ltd. Joins International Copper Association

In a significant step towards sustainability in copper production, Kutch Copper Ltd., a subsidiary of Adani Group, has joined the International Copper Association (ICA) as its newest member. With its headquarters based in Washington, D.C., the ICA represents a substantial portion of the global copper production, boasting 33 members across six continents.

Kutch Copper, strategically located in Mundra, Gujarat, is wholly owned by Adani Enterprises, the flagship incubator for the Adani Group. The company is on track to invest approximately $1.2 billion in establishing a state-of-the-art copper smelter with an initial capacity of 0.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) in its first phase. The facility will also produce copper cathodes, rods, and additional by-products, which supports India's ambition to achieve self-sufficiency in copper production.

Dr. Vinay Prakash, the Managing Director of Kutch Copper, expressed his enthusiasm for joining the ICA, stating, "India is poised to become a significant hub for copper and its products in the coming decades. Our membership in ICA will empower us to actively participate in sustainability initiatives and develop innovative applications and products in the copper sector. We look forward to collaborating with the global copper community to enhance the value chain of this essential metal, which plays a vital role in the transition to net-zero emissions."

Juan Ignacio Díaz, President and CEO of ICA, welcomed Kutch Copper and stated, "We are thrilled to welcome Adani Metals Kutch Copper Ltd. into our community. Their commitment to promoting sustainable and innovative copper production reinforces our collective mission to promote, protect, and advocate for the essential role of copper in enabling the technologies and infrastructures necessary for global decarbonization. We are particularly excited to support the growth of copper in regions where its key applications are expanding."

Stephen Rowland, Chair of the ICA, emphasized the collaborative spirit, saying, "KCL's membership in ICA strengthens our commitment to promoting sustainable practices and developing new applications for copper. We are excited to work together and support their efforts to drive positive change within the industry."

The completion of a second phase, which will double the plant's capacity, will position Kutch Copper as one of the largest single-location custom copper smelters globally with a total capacity of 1 MTPA. The company is dedicated to adhering to high standards of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance while leveraging advanced technology and digitalization in its operations.

Moreover, Kutch Copper plans to integrate copper tubes into its product portfolio as part of its advanced integration strategy.
