DPR Construction Appoints Abe Sipes as New Sacramento Business Unit Leader

DPR Construction, known as a prominent player among technical builders in the U.S., has officially announced Abe Sipes taking over as head of its Sacramento chapter. Sipes, a graduate of Stanford University, joined DPR back in 2011. He quickly made his mark by successfully overseeing various substantial projects in the region, such as the design-build Shasta and Yosemite Halls at the University of California, Davis.

Most recently, Sipes was at the forefront of the design-build team for the UC Davis Health 48X Complex, which is poised to become one of the largest and most cutting-edge outpatient surgery centers in the United States.

Sipes attributes his team's success to their commitment to innovation in collaborative delivery methods and the pursuit of novel ideas to meet clients' needs. "Our team is committed to trying new things, redefining collaborative delivery, and finding new opportunities to achieve our clients' goals," Sipes expressed. He believes that breakthroughs in prefabrication procedures and their hands-on approach allow them to offer faster market responses and increased value for their clientele.

Recognized as a registered engineer, Sipes has earned accolades for his leadership in design-build strategies. He actively identifies opportunities for prefabrication that enhance efficiency and reduce costs associated with construction.

Jack Poindexter, the Northwest regional leader at DPR, praised Sipes as a visionary leader who fosters trust and innovation while building collaborative teams. Poindexter underscored Sipes' structural engineering background, which offers essential insights into the complex projects that have become DPR's hallmark.

Sipes' leadership comes in the wake of the seasoned DPR veteran Nils Blomquist transitioning to a new role focused on enhancing the business development strategy and client engagement across the Northwest region. Blomquist has rich experience in managing diverse projects across DPR's primary sectors, which include life sciences, advanced technology, higher education, corporate office, and healthcare. Under his stewardship, DPR has grown to be among the top general contractors in Sacramento, employing over 250 individuals and reportedly fostering a positive work culture that earned it recognition as one of Sacramento's Best Workplaces.

Reflecting on his tenure, Blomquist articulated his pride in the accomplishments achieved during his time and expressed confidence in Sipes' capabilities as he takes on this pivotal role. "I'm proud of what our team has accomplished in Sacramento and excited to pass the torch to Abe, a proven builder and leader," he said.

Founded in 1990, DPR Construction has built a strong reputation as a self-performing general contractor and construction management service focused on sustainably tackling technically intricate projects in sectors including advanced technology, life sciences, healthcare, and higher education. From large-scale projects to smaller tenant improvements, DPR’s portfolio of work encapsulates a wide array of construction challenges. Their consistent pursuit of innovation—such as the successful incorporation of virtual design and data analytics—has positioned them as a forerunner in the industry, boasting approximately 11,000 professionals across the globe.
