Limited Edition Poster Campaign Revives in Kyoto
Starting from September 18, 2026, the 'Ride the Subway' project by Gyorai Eizou Co., Ltd. revives its poster giveaway campaign at the Karasuma Oike subway station in Kyoto. After a two-year hiatus, approximately 40 limited edition B1 posters will be available for those who purchase a total of 2,300 yen or more in related merchandise.
This campaign is a continuation of the previous giveaway from 2024, in which the same posters were made available. The original posters were created by Gyorai Eizou as a tribute to the 10th anniversary of 'Ride the Subway' and were donated to the Kyoto City Transportation Bureau for display at subway stations.
Campaign Details
The giveaway will run from September 18 until supplies last, with a limit of one poster per person. Participants can find the poster at the Kyoto City Subway and City Bus Guidance Center, located in Karasuma Oike Station. This reopening of the campaign ties perfectly with the Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair (Kyoma 2026), scheduled to take place on September 19 and 20, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the world of 'Ride the Subway' right before the event.
Background of the Poster
The limited edition posters represent an iconic scene from the 2014 animated commercial for 'Ride the Subway', which is based on the characters that have been promoting public transport in Kyoto since 2013. The original crowdfunding campaign in 2023 garnered overwhelming support, raising a total of 5,643,500 yen from 370 backers, surpassing the initial goal of 1 million yen. This enthusiasm inspired the creation of the poster for 2024, integrating designs from the initial animation as well as promoting the 'MOTTO!' campaign that encourages subway and bus use in Kyoto.
Special Events
Coinciding with the campaign, Gyorai Eizou will also host a talk event on September 20 at Campus Plaza Kyoto, commemorating 10 years since initiating the crowdfunding for the 'Ride the Subway' short animation in 2016. This event, alongside the poster giveaway, offers an excellent opportunity for fans and new audiences to engage with the series and its contributions to Kyoto’s public transport culture.
Participants can purchase a variety of related merchandise, including an acrylic stand priced at 2,000 yen, A4 clear files for 600 yen, and post card sets ranging from 500 to 700 yen, ensuring that fans can not only collect posters but also other themed items.
This revival of the 'Ride the Subway' campaign not only serves as a celebration of its legacy but also aims to continue promoting the use of public transport in Kyoto, which is crucial for both locals and visitors alike. As transportation plays a vital role in the city’s ecosystem, initiatives like these help shape a culture that supports accessibility and sustainability while fostering community spirit.
In conclusion, whether you're a long-time fan or discovering this project for the first time, don’t miss your chance to grab this exclusive poster and be part of the Kyoto public transport promotion history. Make sure to visit Karasuma Oike Station starting from September 18, 2026, and join in the celebration of 'Ride the Subway'!
