AGCO Honors Ben Brand as First Agricultural Mechanics Teacher of the Year
In a significant recognition of excellence in agricultural education, AGCO Corporation has named Ben Brand of Social Circle High School in Georgia as the inaugural Agricultural Mechanics Teacher of the Year. This new award, backed by AGCO, aims to honor educators dedicated to preparing students for lucrative careers in agricultural mechanics and technology.
Ben Brand, a seasoned educator with over 20 years of teaching experience, has been instrumental in equipping his students with the practical skills necessary for success in skilled trades. His curriculum covers essential topics like welding, fabrication, small-engine repair, electrical systems, and agricultural equipment operation. By emphasizing hands-on instruction and industry-relevant practices, Brand ensures that his students are not just learning theory but are also prepared to meet the demands of modern agricultural technologies.
The AGCO award highlights the substantial impact that agricultural mechanics programs can have on students' technical skills, confidence, and problem-solving capabilities. Brand's teaching methodology has been recognized for effectively connecting students with industry credentials, internships, and local employers, thereby facilitating their entry into the workforce. "Agricultural mechanics teachers play a critical role in shaping the technical skills and confidence needed in our industry," says Ash Alt, Manager of Aftersales Technical Training at AGCO. "Recognizing educators like Ben Brand is part of AGCO's commitment to support the next generation of agricultural technicians and leaders."
Nominees for this prestigious award were evaluated based on various factors, including instructional excellence, impact on students, engagement with the industry, as well as leadership and dedication to agricultural education. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Brand serves as the advisor for the Social Circle High School chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA), further demonstrating his commitment to motivating the youth in the agricultural field.
Under his guidance, students have the opportunity to earn valuable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certifications. They actively compete in various agricultural mechanics events while forming meaningful connections with technical colleges and local employers. Brand's dedication to safety and the practical application of skills has contributed significantly to his students' readiness to tackle real-world challenges.
"Receiving this inaugural award is an incredible honor," Brand commented. "I hope this recognition brings attention to the importance of agricultural mechanics and the positive influence these educational programs have on students' futures."
As part of the award, Brand will be honored at several events, including the Georgia Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association summer conference, the Georgia FFA State Convention, and a special awards luncheon at AGCO's global headquarters in Duluth. He will also receive a cash prize of $1,500 in recognition of his achievements.
