Partnership Between Renalytix and Carna Health Aims to Revolutionize Kidney Disease Management

Partnership Between Renalytix and Carna Health

Renalytix PLC and Carna Health have taken a significant step forward in addressing the pressing challenges posed by chronic kidney disease (CKD). This landmark collaboration is aimed at bridging the gap between population screening and precision intervention in healthcare systems across the U.S.

A New Approach to Kidney Health

The partnership integrates Renalytix's FDA-approved kidneyintelX.dkd test with Carna Health's AI-enhanced digital health platform. This innovative approach seeks not only to identify patients at risk of kidney disease but also to implement timely and efficient management strategies that can fundamentally alter the trajectory of chronic kidney disease and its complications.

Current statistics indicate an alarming rise in Medicare expenditures for CKD, surpassing $130 billion annually. This unsustainable model necessitates a shift towards preemptive care that prioritizes early detection and proactive health interventions across populations. By utilizing the combined strengths of both companies, the partnership aims to reduce healthcare costs while significantly improving patient outcomes.

Proven Success in Screening and Monitoring

Both companies bring a wealth of experience and proven success to this alliance. Carna Health has demonstrated its capabilities with large-scale screening initiatives worldwide. Notably, its programs in Bermuda helped identify undiagnosed CKD in nearly half of the screened population. Similarly, efforts in Cameroon led to the enrollment of 35,000 patients, showcasing the effectiveness of its tools and methodologies in identifying at-risk individuals.

Building on this momentum, Carna Health plans to expand its CKD prevention efforts to an additional 75,000 patients across multiple regions within Cameroon. The global strategy aims to screen 1 to 1.5 million individuals by the end of the year, establishing Carna Health as a formidable player in the CKM screening landscape.

The integration of digital platforms with healthcare systems means that practitioners can efficiently manage patient data, enabling swift interventions and reducing the administrative burdens often associated with healthcare delivery.

Impacting Care for Patients

The kidneyintelX.dkd test leverages unique blood biomarkers combined with clinical data to deliver predictive insights regarding the progression of diabetic kidney disease. Studies have shown that this technology offers a 72% improvement in identifying patients at high risk of kidney function decline compared to existing standard care markers. Reports indicate that patients deemed high-risk are 4.5 times more likely to receive life-saving treatment, and the likelihood of specialist referrals significantly increases as well.

By improving the identification process and therapeutic utility for patients, this partnership will pave the way for comprehensive CKD management. Moreover, metrics such as HbA1c and UACR levels have shown tangible improvements when utilizing this advanced diagnostic technology.

Transforming the Future of Kidney Disease Management

“Health systems are under immense pressure to manage kidney disease proactively,” stated Elise Wilfinger, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer at Renalytix. “This collaboration introduces a cohesive approach to CKD management that is set to revolutionize patient outcomes in line with value-based care principles.”

Salvatore Viscomi, MD and CEO of Carna Health, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the integration of their platforms would enable a scalable model uniquely tailored to meet both population health objectives and individual patient needs. “This partnership combines population-wide prevention programs with precision monitoring and education in CKD management,
