NJFX Unveils Advanced AI Infrastructure on New Jersey Campus
NJFX Enhances AI Infrastructure on its Campus
NJFX, a notable carrier-neutral Cable Landing Station (CLS) and Tier-III data center based in Wall, New Jersey, has announced a significant advancement in its facilities with the completion of a detailed Basis of Design for a new high-density AI data hall. This innovative facility is set to offer 10 megawatts (MW) of power with an anticipated Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25 and a usable IT load of 8 MW, aiming for operational readiness by the end of 2026.
Strategic Development
The completion of the design follows the execution of an electric utility load letter, backed by a deposit of $3 million, establishing the groundwork for power delivery to this sophisticated facility. NJFX's campus represents the first purpose-built cable landing station in North America, specifically engineered to support liquid cooling technology for AI-ready infrastructure, enabling advanced performance for today’s AI computing demands.
Scott M. Davis, PE, Partner at Bala Consulting Engineers, has been instrumental in treating the long-term developmental needs of NJFX. Since their partnership began in 2015, Bala Consulting Engineers has overseen the design and commissioning of critical infrastructure components, ensuring that the facilities meet stringent Tier III compliance requirements. The collaboration has resulted in the implementation of dedicated power systems such as 2N generators and robust battery systems tailored for cable station environments.
A Commitment to AI Infrastructure
Internally called Project Cool Water, the new data hall is designed with an N+1 power distribution system and backed by Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) protections to safeguard both electrical and mechanical operations. The advanced cooling system integrates cutting-edge chillers and hot-aisle containment solutions, precisely engineered to meet the thermal requirements inherent to contemporary GPU-based AI clusters.
With the NJFX campus strategically located, it connects four subsea cables that bridge North America to both Europe and South America. This positioning places NJFX within a 7-millisecond response time to over 100 million residents of the U.S., making it a pivotal site for AI and generative AI workloads, supported by over 35 active network operators who interconnect on-site.
Gil Santaliz, NJFX's Founder and CEO, had the vision to develop this campus as a bastion for U.S. critical infrastructure. His long-term plans include collaborating with Tata Communications and expanding capabilities through subsea landings in New Jersey. This latest design ensures robust connectivity for global network carriers and enables the scalability required for future technology advancements.
Future Developments and Resilience
As NJFX progresses into this new phase of development, the enhanced power infrastructure will cater not only to the AI data hall but will also create a ripple effect on electrical redundancy for the surrounding Monmouth County area. Ryan Imkemeier, Vice President of Operations, emphasized that this investment reflects NJFX's unwavering commitment to reliability, scalability, and regional resilience.
After more than a decade at the forefront of connectivity solutions, NJFX has developed a reputation as one of the most resilient interconnection hubs in the United States, effectively combining subsea cable systems with unique terrestrial fiber routes to provide unparalleled operational integrity and international resilience. Now, with the innovations taken to define the modern cable landing station, NJFX sets the stage for the convergence of global connectivity and advanced AI infrastructure.
