Florida's Charter Schools Show Academics Success in Latest Performance Review

Florida Charter Schools Achieve Remarkable Success

The recent release of the 2025-2026 school grades by the Florida Department of Education has drawn attention to the impressive performance of charter schools across Florida. The Florida Charter School Alliance (FCSA) has praised the results, highlighting the exceptional academic achievement reflected in the results. For the 2025-2026 academic year, charter schools have serviced over 407,000 students, demonstrating a consistent commitment to providing quality educational opportunities for families throughout the state.

This year’s statistics confirm what many families and educators already recognize: Florida’s charter schools are among the top performers nationwide. The numbers reveal that 78% of these schools secured an 'A' or 'B' grade, surpassing district-run public schools, where 76% achieved similar ratings. More compelling is the fact that 61% of charter schools earned an 'A' grade, compared to only 48% of their non-charter public school counterparts, amounting to a significant 13-percentage-point lead. Among the 607 charter institutions that received grades in both the 2025 and 2026 assessments, a significant 68% managed to either enhance their school grade or maintain an 'A' designation.

Further shedding light on their success, a report by the Florida Department of Education released in May 2026 reinforced these findings. It showed that students in Florida’s charter schools consistently outperform their district peers across various statewide assessments, despite catering to a diverse demographic that mirrors Florida's communities closely. The report points to ongoing advancements in student achievements, particularly in relation to minority students and those from underprivileged backgrounds. This underscores the essential part that charter schools play in enhancing educational outcomes across the state.

Lynn Norman-Teck, Executive Director of the Florida Charter School Alliance, stated, "Florida's charter schools continue to demonstrate that innovation, accountability, and family choice lead to extraordinary results for students. With over 407,000 students excelling in these schools, it’s clear that dedicated educators, supportive families, and proactive school leaders are committed to delivering high-quality public education. We take pride in these results and express our gratitude toward the teachers, administrators, governing boards, and parents whose efforts contribute to this success."

The Florida Charter School Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for policies that expand access to high-quality public charter schools, bolster accountability, and ensure that every Florida student has the chance to thrive in their educational pursuits. The commitment to innovation, equity, and educational excellence showcases the positive impact charter schools can have on student achievement, as they strive to meet the diverse needs of their communities.

The future of Florida’s charter education system looks bright, as it not only continues to strive for excellence but also provides an avenue for educational improvement statewide.

As we look forward, it remains vital that all stakeholders continue to support the initiative and keep the momentum going to further cultivate the achievements of Florida’s charter schools and, in turn, the students they serve.
