This year, the event centers around the captivating legend of Chang'e, a mythical figure whose tale has been told and retold throughout the ages. In the narrative, Chang'e consumes an elixir of immortality to prevent her husband's apprentice, Peng Meng, from stealing it, ultimately soaring to the moon. This tale dates back to the ancient philosophical text, Huainanzi, from the 2nd century BC, showcasing China's deep historical roots associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Huaihe River, the gala will take place amidst the charm of the full moon on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, a time traditionally dedicated to family reunions and moon-gazing. The evening is designed not just as a nostalgic trip down memory lane for those who celebrate, but as a modern reinterpretation utilizing cutting-edge technology, such as AI, robotics, and drones, to bring the age-old traditions to life.
