In a recent groundbreaking announcement, METLEN Energy Metals PLC has finalized a long-term contract to deliver approximately 25% of its annual gallium production from a planned facility in Greece. This contract marks a historic development as it is the first major commercial agreement for gallium between a European manufacturer and a leading U.S. technology firm. The specific terms of this agreement remain confidential.

This contract is seen as a pivotal milestone in Europe's efforts to enhance the resilience of its supply chains for critical raw materials. Gallium is increasingly crucial across various sectors, including artificial intelligence, renewable energy infrastructure, telecommunications, and defense solutions. As the global production of gallium is heavily concentrated, establishing alternative and reliable sourcing options for all industrial nations has become strategically important.

METLEN stands out as the first company in Europe to integrate gallium production comprehensively and secure a commercial contract for gallium produced within Europe. Consequently, Greece and Europe are positioned as frontrunners in the new strategic industrial value chain related to this essential material.

Evangelos Mytilineos, the Executive Chairman of METLEN, expressed pride in the agreement, stating, "We are particularly proud that METLEN is opening a completely new chapter for both Greece and Europe by successfully developing gallium production through our teams at Aluminium of Greece. For the first time in our history, one of our metallurgical products has attracted significant global interest from leading industrial nations. This reflects not only the strategic significance of gallium but also the trust of globally leading technology companies in the quality and reliability of our material, which has undergone extensive qualification testing."

This flagship investment in gallium production has been officially recognized as a strategic project by the European Commission under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). The project’s significance has also been acknowledged by the European Investment Bank (EIB), which has provided funding under the REPowerEU program.
