The 18th National Disability Sports Festival
On October 2nd, from 12 PM to 4 PM, the
18th National Disability Sports Festival will be held at the Minato Sports Center in Tokyo. This event brings together athletes from various regions, promoting sports for individuals with disabilities and showcasing their achievements.
Recap of the 17th Festival
During the last event, the 17th Festival, held in October 2024, several outstanding performances were noted:
- - Yamamoto Saito achieved his third consecutive victory in the standing class.
- - Shoji Tatsumi celebrated his fourth victory in the seated category.
- - Sekimisa Masao, a competitor from the hemiplegia division, also managed to claim victory once again.
As the upcoming event approaches, all eyes are on these champions as they aim to defend or improve their titles.
Event Details
- - Date: October 2nd (Thursday)
- - Time: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM (Registration opens at 11:00 AM)
- - Location: Minato Sports Center, Tokyo
- Easily accessible, approximately an 8-minute walk from the
East Exit of Tamachi Station on the JR Yamanote Line.
- - Competition Format: Individual events consisting of five rounds (class and distance-based).

A total of
67 participants registered by the end of July:
- 6m: 12 participants
- 8m: 12 participants
- 10m: 13 participants
- G8m (75+ years old): 10 participants
- - Hemiplegia Division (mixed standing and seated categories): 12 participants
- - Seated Division (mixed distances): 8 participants
Participants hail from
17 prefectures, including Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Niigata, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie, Nara, Shimane, Yamaguchi, Kagawa, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima.
Prizes
Awards will be given based on specific categories and distances:
- - Standing Division: Classes based on distances of 6m, 8m, 10m, and G8m.
- - Hemiplegia Division: All distances will form a single class.
- - Seated Division: All distances will be consolidated into one class.
Free Experience Zone
On the day of the event, there will be a
free experience corner for everyone to try their hand at the sport. We warmly invite participants of all backgrounds to join!
About Sports Wellness Fuhiya
Established in Japan in 1998,
Sports Wellness Fuhiya involves casting arrows towards a circular target 5 to 10 meters away using breath control. This sport incorporates a unique breathing method inspired by abdominal breathing techniques.
During the competition, each competitor uncovers their skills by blowing five arrows within a 3-minute round. Scoring is based on the target's divisions:
- - Inner white area: 7 points
- - Outer red area: 5 points
- - Outer white area: 3 points
- - Black area: 1 point
