Enhancing Vocational Awareness: DOMINISTA CHALLENGE Experience at Dormy Inn Kawasaki
In a bid to cultivate a sense of vocational awareness among middle school students, Kyoritsu Maintenance Co., which operates the Dormy Inn chain, has announced the launch of a unique vocational experience program named the
DOMINISTA CHALLENGE. Scheduled for November 12-13, 2025, this program will take place at the Dormy Inn Kawasaki, targeting students from Inuzukaga Middle School in Kawasaki.
Launched in 2019, the DOMINISTA CHALLENGE is designed to provide secondary school students with insights into the hospitality industry through hands-on experiences across various job roles within the hotel. The program includes tasks such as front desk customer service, housekeeping, and bed-making, allowing participants to engage with the essence of working in hospitality. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of serving guests and cooperating with each other, fostering both a sense of community contribution and an appreciation for their homeland.
Objectives of the DOMINISTA CHALLENGE
The primary objective of this initiative is to equip students with the necessary skills and insights required in the workforce while encouraging them to reflect on their career choices. Throughout the program, students will engage in:
- - A comprehensive overview of the hospitality industry, including the joys and attractions of working in a hotel, and the specific roles of different departments.
- - Practical experiences in front desk operations and customer service etiquette.
- - Facility management techniques, checking rooms, and preparing the communal bath for opening.
- - Tasting experiences in the hotel’s restaurant, specifically a breakfast sampling activity.
According to a representative from Inuzuka Middle School, there are currently around 19,000 different types of professions available. They believe it is crucial for each student to contemplate the meaning of work. The DOMINISTA CHALLENGE promises to be an invaluable opportunity for students to learn about and reflect on what it means to work.
A Commitment to Education
Kohtaro Tada, the General Manager of Dormy Inn Kawasaki, expressed enthusiasm about the program, stating that students will experience a range of hotel operations beyond just check-in tasks. He noted that the program aims to serve as a transformative experience, fostering awareness and thought around the essence of work. Tada also mentioned that he hopes this experience will inspire students to consider pursuing careers in the hospitality sector in the future.
Broader Context and Future Goals
In an era marked by soaring economic uncertainties, it's imperative that students comprehend the significance and fulfillment derived from various professions. Career education that provides meaningful experiences about working life is becoming increasingly critical. Moreover, with a decline in population, nurturing a sense of attachment to their home regions and actively addressing local challenges has never been more important. Kyoritsu Maintenance aims to provide opportunities for children to develop compassion for others and an appreciation for the joy of work through initiatives like the DOMINISTA CHALLENGE.
As part of its ongoing commitment, Kyoritsu Maintenance will focus on helping young participants grow their ties to their communities and inspire them to consider the future of their neighborhoods.
