From July 8 to 11, 2025, Beijing served as the venue for the 12th World Congress on High-Speed Rail, a significant event co-hosted by the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (CR) and the International Union of Railways (UIC). Under the theme "High-Speed Rail Innovation and Development for a Better Life," this congress attracted more than 2,000 attendees from over 60 countries and regions. Participants included government officials, diplomats, corporate leaders, scholars, and industry experts, all coming together to discuss the rapid advancements and achievements in the field of high-speed rail.

As the event unfolded, a broad consensus emerged regarding the future direction of high-speed rail innovation and development. The congress not only showcased China's remarkable progress in high-speed rail technology but also served as a platform for cross-industry collaboration and knowledge exchange. The event featured 30 technical sessions and two roundtables, with over 200 experts and leaders sharing their insights and innovations. In total, more than 700 research papers were submitted from 27 different countries and organizations, presenting cutting-edge ideas and diverse perspectives on rail transportation.

In conjunction with the main congress, MODERN RAILWAYS 2025 was held, exhibiting the latest innovations in rail technology. This exhibition featured 521 companies from 14 countries, showcasing advanced technologies such as railway unmanned aerial vehicles for intelligent inspections and presenting 30 innovative train models, including the CR450 Fuxing EMU trains and maglev trains. The event welcomed over 72,000 visitors and displayed more than 30,000 categories of exhibits, offering an extensive look into the future of high-speed rail technology.

During the congress, CR entered into cooperation agreements with various railway organizations from France, Spain, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Laos, Malaysia, among others. Additionally, the congress included engaging activities such as railway-themed outreach programs, fan interactions, and technical visits, showcasing the culture of high-speed rail while promoting mutual learning and interaction among diverse civilizations.

China's high-speed rail network currently spans 48,000 kilometers, accounting for over 70% of the global total and connecting 97% of cities with populations exceeding 500,000. The Fuxing EMU trains are noted for operating at commercial speeds of up to 350 km/h, with over 10,000 daily departures, accommodating more than 16 million passengers. Since their introduction, EMU trips have surpassed 22.9 billion, establishing China's leadership in high-speed rail operations. Furthermore, China has led the development of all 13 system-level international standards under the UIC, making significant contributions to the global advancements in rail technology.
