FordDirect Leadership Transition

In a compelling move to strengthen its strategic direction, FordDirect has announced a leadership transition that brings Chris Thornton into the role of CEO, succeeding Dean Stoneley, who has been pivotal in transforming the firm’s vision and operations.

Effective as of now, Dean Stoneley is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer of FordDirect to embrace a new challenge at Ford Motor Company, where he will serve as the Executive Director of Global Product Marketing. This change marks a significant moment for both FordDirect and its parent company, Ford, as they navigate the fast-evolving automotive landscape.

Achievements Under Dean Stoneley

Dean Stoneley joined FordDirect in June 2022, and his impact on the company has been notable. During his leadership, he was instrumental in refining the company's mission through digital integration, employing data, and utilizing emerging technologies. These efforts were aimed at crafting premium marketing and advertising solutions tailored for Ford Dealers and Lincoln Retailers, all while aligning with the overarching goals of simplifying the customer journey through the Ford+ strategy.

Under his stewardship, FordDirect not only achieved new heights in dealer satisfaction annually but also initiated innovative applications of their data platform and artificial intelligence — greatly benefitting the dealer community. These advancements helped enhance dealer performance, foster customer engagement, and build robust relationships with the wider Ford network.

Brian Godfrey, Chairman of the FordDirect board of managers, expressed gratitude towards Dean, stating, “His vision and commitment have been pivotal in driving our strategic initiatives, and we wish him the very best in his exciting new role at Ford Motor Company.”

Chris Thornton's Vision

His prior experience includes overseeing the introduction of the FordPass App in the U.S. and managing Ford’s online sales operations. Moreover, his diverse background has afforded him a comprehensive understanding of dealer operations and the value of collaborative partnerships.

Before this role, Thornton was the Director of Retail CX Products within Ford’s Customer Service Division, spearheading various customer-facing strategies including the Ford | Lincoln Service Reservation+ and the loyalty initiative, FordPass Rewards.

“I am honored and excited to lead FordDirect as its next CEO,” Thornton commented, expressing his enthusiasm for continuing the solid groundwork laid by Dean and his team. He emphasized his commitment to furthering FordDirect's mission of being an invaluable partner to Ford Dealers and Lincoln Retailers, enhancing their capabilities to excel in the retail environment.
