National Sleep Foundation Announces 2026 Dates for Sleep Awareness Week®
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) proudly announced that Sleep Awareness Week® for 2026 is scheduled to run from
March 8 to 14. This event, a vital part of NSF’s ongoing efforts to emphasize the significance of sleep in maintaining optimal health and overall well-being, has become an essential call to action for the public.
Now celebrating its 28th year, Sleep Awareness Week serves as a platform for raising awareness about sleep health and encouraging people to prioritize getting sufficient quality rest. The NSF has established itself as an authority in sleep education, providing valuable insights and resources aimed at helping individuals embrace healthier sleep habits.
Initially launched in 1998, Sleep Awareness Week has transformed into a premier campaign for sleep education and awareness. A noteworthy aspect of the event is the release of the
Sleep in America® Poll, a key survey conducted by the NSF. Each year during this week, the poll reveals critical insights into public attitudes, behaviors, and experiences related to sleep health. The findings address various subjects, including the effects of aging, exercise, and pain on sleep, as well as strategies for incorporating healthy sleep practices in everyday life. For instance, the recent
2025 Sleep in America Poll highlighted the vital connection between robust sleep health and an individual's ability to thrive in various aspects of life.
Steven Lerman, MD, MPH, Chair of the NSF Board of Directors, noted, "The National Sleep Foundation remains the leading authority in sleep health education for the public. This coming Sleep Awareness Week, we are excited to share groundbreaking findings and new insights from our latest research with communities across the nation and worldwide."
Interestingly, Sleep Awareness Week coincides with the beginning of
Daylight Saving Time, when many Americans lose an hour of sleep due to the clock change. This timing serves as a poignant reminder of the need to prioritize healthy sleep practices. John Lopos, CEO of NSF, stated, "This week is designed to encourage everyone, regardless of age, to become their
Best Slept Self®. It represents a renewed commitment to improving sleep for enhanced health, performance, and overall well-being."
NSF's website will feature campaign information and resources, ensuring widespread access to tools that facilitate better sleep habits for all. As an independent nonprofit organization, the National Sleep Foundation has dedicated over three decades to advancing sleep health through education and advocacy.
Founded in 1990, NSF is committed to establishing standards in sleep health, supported by expert recommendations, consensus guidelines, technical standards, and user-friendly tips designed to enhance sleep quality. As we approach Sleep Awareness Week 2026, the foundation stands ready to support individuals on their journey to improved sleep and, by extension, robust health. With NSF's valuable support and initiatives, the goal of better sleep for everyone is not just a dream, but a reachable reality.
