Second Round of Recruitment for Disaster Relief Funding to Support Non-Profits and Volunteers Begins

Second Round of Recruitment for Disaster Relief Funding

In response to a series of disasters, including the Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024 and severe rains and typhoons in August 2024, the Japanese government has launched the second round of funding to support non-profit organizations (NPOs) and volunteer groups assisting disaster-affected areas. This initiative falls under a subsidy program aimed at compensating transportation costs incurred by these entities when they reach out to help victims.

Recruitment Details

The application period for this round of recruitment will begin on October 19, 2023, and will close on November 6, 2023, at noon. Furthermore, activities initiated on or after October 1, 2023, will be eligible for applications till November 27, 2023.

Subsidy Amounts

Eligible groups can apply for a maximum subsidy of 500,000 yen per application. However, each organization can make a total claim of up to 2 million yen. It's important to note that if the total requests exceed the budget limit, there may be adjustments in the subsidy amounts awarded.

Eligible Activities

This subsidy is directed towards non-profit activities aimed at supporting disaster victims in areas currently under the Disaster Relief Act. This includes regions affected by the aforementioned disasters where volunteer activities are accepted during the subsidy period.

Supported Costs

The funding covers the transportation expenses from the departure location (within Japan) to the operational bases involved in disaster response efforts. This includes costs such as rented volunteer buses, train fares, rental cars, and gasoline expenses associated with round trips to these locations.

Duration of Support

The eligible support period runs from July 1, 2023, to February 28, 2024.
