Claros Technologies Celebrates Historic Success in High-Throughput PFAS Destruction Demonstration

Claros Technologies Achieves Groundbreaking PFAS Destruction

Claros Technologies has made headlines with a groundbreaking demonstration of its innovative approach to eliminating per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using advanced ultraviolet (UV) technology. Conducted in collaboration with Daikin America, Inc., this large-scale pilot project marks a historic moment in environmental protection and industrial waste management.

Success of the Pilot Project

On July 28, 2025, Claros announced the successful completion of the world’s first large-scale PFAS destruction using high-throughput UV technology. This pilot took place at Daikin’s facility in Decatur, Alabama, where Claros's patented photochemical process managed to eliminate over 99.99% of targeted PFAS compounds. More than 50,000 gallons of industrial wastewater were treated using a high-flow system capable of processing hundreds of gallons per minute.

The achievement is particularly noteworthy because PFAS are synthetic substances that are notoriously persistent in the environment, posing severe health and ecological risks. Daikin America has been proactive in managing these substances and has already achieved a 99.9% reduction of long-chain PFAS in its wastewater processes since 2012. The collaboration with Claros not only highlights the technical feasibility of large-scale PFAS destruction but also its economic viability, crucial for widespread industrial adoption.

A Vision for Sustainable Manufacturing

Michelle Bellanca, CEO and co-founder of Claros Technologies, spoke of the invaluable partnership with Daikin America, emphasizing their leadership and commitment to employing cutting-edge solutions. "We are deeply honored to collaborate with Daikin on this pioneering initiative. Their vision and readiness to invest in advanced solutions have made this achievement possible. This pilot project not only showcases the present viability of large-scale PFAS destruction but also sets a new standard for environmental sustainability across the manufacturing sector," she said.

Bellanca highlighted that this collaboration demonstrated what can be achieved when innovation meets decisive action and foresight, establishing a path towards commercial implementation.

Future Prospects

Following the successful outcome of this initial pilot, both Claros and Daikin are eager to move forward with additional collaborations aimed at scaling up their technology further. The next phase will concentrate on enhancing the flow rates and destruction capabilities of the UV technology, which holds the promise of radically transforming how industries manage PFAS contamination.
