X-Bow Systems Expands with New Office in Indian Head, Maryland
X-Bow Systems Inc., a prominent name in the development of advanced solid rocket motors (SRMs) and various defense technologies, has recently expanded its operations by officially opening a new office in Indian Head, Maryland. The grand opening on February 27, 2025, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring key figures from the Department of Defense (DoD), local government, and industry partners.
The new office signifies an important step in bolstering X-Bow's commitment to supporting national defense priorities and enhancing its collaboration with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD), recognized as the Navy's leading facility for energetics and munitions.
At the ceremony, X-Bow's CEO Jason Hundley expressed pride in the new office, stating, "This new office will enable us to better serve our customer's needs and accelerate the modernization of the U.S. Navy's energetics industrial base." Furthermore, the company announced its selection for a $7 million contract with NSWC IHD, aimed at implementing innovative technology to modernize their Indian Head facility. This initiative is in line with the DoD's strategy to enhance productivity while reducing operational costs.
Distinguished speakers at the event included Mike Bender, X-Bow COO; Dr. Phil Stracener, Director of Global Facility Solutions; Ashley Johnson, Technical Director at NSWC IHD; Andrew McLain, Vice President of Roebbelen (the design-build partner), and local government representatives. Their presence emphasized the collaborative spirit needed for advancing defense technology and modernization.
The partnership between X-Bow Systems and NSWC IHD is part of a broader effort, as in 2024, X-Bow received a $60 million award as part of a $2.7 billion modernization plan for NSWC IHD established over 15 years. This initiative reflects a strategic move by the DoD to significantly elevate its capabilities in ordnance and energetics.
In addition to enhancing military operations, X-Bow's expanded presence is also expected to benefit the local economy significantly. The office's operations are anticipated to create numerous jobs and contribute to regional economic development. A crucial aspect of the modernization project involves a collaboration with Roebbelen Contracting Inc., a noted firm providing design and construction management services.
Roebbelen will oversee infrastructure design and execution for this modernization initiative, capitalizing on X-Bow's expertise in energetics technology and operational processes. This cooperation is expected to streamline the integration of advanced manufacturing capabilities within the Indian Head Division.
Jason Hundley stated, "We've waited a long time for this type of partnership to materialize. This is the way business has to be done in the future," emphasizing the importance of innovation and strategic collaboration in meeting the defense sector's evolving needs.
X-Bow Systems continues to revolutionize the aerospace industry with advancements in the development of solid rocket motors and launch vehicles, positioning itself as a leader among non-traditional defense suppliers. Their commitment to innovation, underpinned by support from noteworthy investors and partnerships, has solidified their presence not only in Indian Head but across several states, creating a robust network of operations across various locations including Albuquerque, California, and Texas.
As X-Bow Systems looks to the future, their initiatives will not only support national defense objectives but also strengthen the interplay between local economies and defense-related industries, creating a sustainable foundation for technological advancement and economic growth.
