UFP Industries Reports Strong Results for Q3 2026 Amid Rising Costs
UFP Industries Reports Strong Results for Q3 2026
UFP Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: UFPI), a prominent manufacturer recognized for its diverse offerings across Retail, Packaging, and Construction, announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2026. The firm reported net sales of $1.73 billion, marking an impressive increase of 11.1% compared to $1.56 billion in the same period last year. This increase can be attributed to organic unit growth of 4%, contributions from acquisitions which added another 2%, and a significant price rise of 5%.
However, the company faced challenges with diluted earnings per share falling to $1.05 from $1.29 a year ago. Net earnings attributable to controlling interests also dipped to $58 million from $75 million, primarily due to soaring freight and lumber costs. UFP Industries has noted that increased transportation expenses, which accounted for 1.3% of net sales, played a significant role in impacting its overall earnings during this quarter.
Will Schwartz, President and CEO of UFP Industries, provided insights into the company's performance. He highlighted that organic unit growth remained strong, reflecting the effectiveness of product and market-share initiatives even as several end markets experienced pressure. Notably, new products constituted 8.7% of net sales, demonstrating the success of their ongoing efforts to introduce innovative offerings to the market, including growth in their Deckorators and Construction segments.
Despite the challenges posed by escalating transportation and material costs, which have limited profit margins, UFP will continue to exert complete control over manageable elements within their operations. Schwartz mentioned that the company anticipates exceeding its initial $60 million cost-savings objective by the end of the year and is pursuing further productivity improvements, capacity consolidation, and cost reduction initiatives.
UFP Industries' commitment to enhancing profitability through strategic initiatives remains evident, with the company seeing a stronger operational framework compared to before changes made to management structure in 2019. As transportation costs rise sharply as a percentage of net sales, the leadership believes that the firm’s proactive cost actions and operational strategies will unlock significant profitability improvements without needing to rely on immediate market recovery.
The company ended the quarter with approximately $2 billion in liquidity, reinforced by the absence of borrowings against its revolving credit facility. This strong financial position allows UFP Industries the flexibility to execute investments even during market fluctuations. The company has also successfully completed three acquisitions to date this year and plans to acquire Apache Products, a wood pallet manufacturer.
For the Retail segment, net sales rose to $634 million, a 6.8% increase year-on-year, while the Packaging segment achieved net sales of $466 million, an 18% growth reflecting strong organic unit performance and successful acquisitions. In contrast, the Construction segment experienced net sales of $552 million, indicating an 11.3% rise. However, net earnings across these segments revealed mixed performances due to variable factors such as shifts in consumer sentiment and macroeconomic uncertainties.
UFP has outlined its 2026 outlook, forecasting slight declines in overall industry unit demand across all segments and underlining the necessity for prudent cost management amidst rising energy and transportation expenses. Looking forward, the company anticipates persisting challenges related to new residential construction yet expects stabilization in various other sectors, which may help mitigate pressures on profitability.
In the long-term, UFP Industries aims for 7-10% annual sales growth, focusing on introducing new products that will contribute to at least 10% of total sales while maintaining a disciplined approach to capital allocation to ensure robust returns on investments. Amid these fiscal endeavors, follow-up communication and updates regarding performance will continue during future conference calls, ensuring ongoing engagement with investors and stakeholders.
