The 2025 Hengqin International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians
The Hengqin International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians reached a magnificent conclusion on September 21, 2025, marking the end of an enchanting music journey that spanned 13 days. Held at the Hengqin Cultural and Arts Complex, this year's event attracted young talents from an impressive 23 countries and regions. With 75 contestants participating, this year’s competition saw the highest number of participants in its history, showcasing the vibrant engagement of young artists in the realm of classical music.
For the past decade, the Mozart Competition has symbolized cultural excellence within the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao. This prestigious event stands out as a premier international youth music competition, not only enhancing communication between China and the world but also fostering new avenues for the development of the music industry.
Evaluated by a distinguished jury composed of world-class artists and educators, the competition this year focused on the violin, divided into three age categories. While prominently featuring Mozart’s compositions, the repertoire also celebrated works from legendary composers such as Bach and Paganini, in addition to a program dedicated to Chinese music. This careful blend of tradition and innovation was designed to challenge the technical prowess and artistic expression of the young musicians.
After rigorous performances, 11 winners were proudly announced across the three categories, reflecting the extraordinary talent present among the participants. The Closing Concert was a particular highlight, featuring the Salzburg Chamber Soloists and several awardees who delivered an unforgettable evening integrating Mozart’s classics with outstanding Chinese masterpieces, garnering enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In addition to the fierce musical competition, the event hosted over a dozen interdisciplinary activities in Hengqin and Macao, witnessing participation from thousands of attendees. These events not only enriched the aesthetic education of young people but also promoted cultural integration in the region, reinforcing the competition's mission of uniting cultures through music.
As the curtains fell on this year’s event, excitement is palpable for next year’s Hengqin International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians. The anticipation grows steadily as the competition is set to return annually, continuing its legacy of nurturing young musical talent and contributing to the cultural tapestry of the Greater Bay Area. The journey of these budding musicians is just beginning, and the impact of the competition echoes beyond the stage, inspiring the next generation of artists and audiences.
