Celebrating the National School Students Paper Recycling Contest 2025: Award Ceremony Highlights

Celebrating the National School Students Paper Recycling Contest 2025

On February 28, 2026, the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation, the Old Paper Recycling Promotion Center, hosted an award ceremony for the National School Students Paper Recycling Contest 2025. Supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, this contest aimed to encourage elementary and junior high school students across the country to deepen their understanding of recycled paper collection and its utilization. The contest invited submissions centered on the theme of 'Paper Recycling,' including essays and posters, from June 2 to November 28, 2025, ultimately attracting a remarkable 2,112 entries from various regions.

A Day of Celebration

During the award ceremony, selected winners, chosen through a rigorous judging process, were present to receive accolades. The atmosphere was filled with warm applause as each winner was presented with a certificate. Their thoughts and the stories behind their creations were shared, capturing the audience's attention.

The submissions revealed students’ unique perspectives, reflecting insights gained through personal recycling experiences, innovative ideas for local old paper collection activities, and environmentally conscious proposals for the future. The powerful messages conveyed in their works highlighted the importance of valuing paper resources.

Outstanding Award Winners

Winners included commendable projects recognized with the Minister of Education Award for the top elementary and junior high school entries. Through this contest, children, who will be the leaders of tomorrow, had the opportunity to learn the significance of paper recycling, fostering their ability to think critically and express their ideas.

Exploring the Potential of Mixed Paper

Among the numerous entries, many focused on 'mixed paper,' a term which encompasses various everyday paper products such as candy boxes, envelopes, wrapping paper, and printed materials. While these items are prevalent in our lives, the variety of papers eligible for recycling can sometimes create confusion about what can be recycled. Additionally, the different rules and methods for paper disposal across regions make proper sorting challenging.

Against this backdrop, students viewed mixed paper not merely as waste but as a valuable resource. They creatively devised sorting methods for their homes and schools, crafting informative posters and engaging call-to-action statements to inspire others. This fresh perspective on paper resources that are often overlooked yet intimate in our lives distinguished this contest.

To further support these young learners, the Center has launched a campaign called 'Let's Find Mr. Mixed Paper!' aimed at promoting mixed paper collection. Going forward, we aim to enhance understanding of accessible paper resources in daily life and convert this awareness into tangible action.
