Insights from the 2026-27 WIT Index

The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) has made available the findings from its 2026-27 WIT Index, an exhaustive analysis shedding light on gender representation within the trucking industry. Key Findings on Gender Roles

• - C-Suite Representation: Approximately 31% of executive positions, often referred to as C-suite roles, are filled by women.
• - Supervisory Positions: Women also represent 37.5% of supervisory leadership roles, showcasing a growing trend toward gender inclusivity in management positions.
• - Board Membership: Women account for 29% of board of director members, a commendable achievement in an industry where such representation has historically been lacking.
• - Operational Roles: 76.5% of women are involved in human resources and talent management roles, 45.5% in dispatch operations, and 44% in safety roles.

However, it’s important to note the underrepresentation of women in technical roles like truck diesel technicians, where only 2.5% are women.

Gender Representation in Professional Truck Drivers

The index also documented the presence of women among professional truck drivers, reported relative to the size of the companies:

• - In micro/small companies with fewer than 500 employees, 10% of their professional drivers with Commercial Driver Licenses (CDLs) are women.
• - In larger medium-sized enterprises (500 to 4,999 employees), approximately 10.5% of drivers with CDLs are female.
• - For major firms with over 5,000 employees, only about 7% of truck drivers with CDLs are women.

Interestingly, these percentages show little change compared to the last WIT Index, reflecting a stagnation in the growth of women drivers in what is regarded as a critical and traditionally male-dominated segment of the industry.
