Dream Kana Study Abroad Launches Free Study Abroad Project for Youth

The Launch of the Dream Kana Project

In an ambitious initiative to address the pressing student needs of young travelers, Dream Kana Study Abroad, operated by Jstyle Co., Ltd., announced its launch of a free study abroad project. This announcement coincided with their participation in the business dialogue program PIVOT & questions aired on July 31, where co-founder and CEO Kazutaka Ando and Vice President Yang Yufei shared insights about the current challenges within the study abroad and working holiday sector.

PIVOT & questions is a platform that allows future leaders and challengers to discuss societal issues candidly. It is broadcast via YouTube and the official PIVOT website, featuring entrepreneurs, business owners, and creators discussing pressing societal issues, changes in values, and the essence of business through sharp questions and deep dialogues.

Program Overview

  • - Air Date: July 31, 14:00 (JST)
  • - Host: Sakiko Nojima (PIVOT MC/Content Planner, former MBS announcer)
  • - Featured Guests: Kazutaka Ando (CEO of Jstyle), Yang Yufei (Vice President)
  • - Theme: Mastering Work and Language in Working Holidays

During the program, the discussion tackled the growing issue of working holiday refugees, where many young individuals have faced job scarcity while abroad. The program deeply explored the underlying structural problems within the working holiday and study abroad industries that lead to these hardships.

Spotlight on Working Holiday Refugees

With the increasing appeal of working holidays, young travelers are looking to experience extended stays abroad while earning an income. However, a troubling reality emerges: around 90% of these travelers report difficulties in securing jobs abroad, often finding themselves in a position where they cannot achieve their aspirations post-arrival.

The gap between the ideal and the harsh realities led many to return prematurely due to dwindling financial resources and inadequate language skills, showcasing a significant concern for the industry. The conventional study abroad agents, who commonly rely on commissions from language schools, often present a misleadingly low cost of living estimates to attract clients. In some cases, potential travelers see quotes that are a mere one-third of the actual required cost.

For instance, when the initial required funds should amount to ¥1,800,000, students are misled with estimates as low as ¥600,000. Such discrepancies significantly impact the ability of young travelers to prepare adequately
for their journeys, crippling their potential experiences abroad. Language programs frequently focus on basic grammar rather than practical English skills needed for real-world employment.

These structural flaws culminate in a surge of working holiday refugees, highlighting the urgent need for a change in the industry's approach to student travel.

Introducing Dream Kana: A Student-First Approach

To combat these challenges, Jstyle Co., Ltd. was founded in 2016 with a vision to reshape the study abroad model to prioritize students’ needs. The newly established Dream Kana Study Abroad model eliminates reliance on referral fees from language schools while providing fully personalized travel plans.

Dream Kana's Four Pillars

1. Career-Focused Counseling: Tailored plans that consider post-return career paths.
2. Exclusive English Coaching: Intensive English coaching specialized for working holiday preparation.
3. Around-the-Clock Support: Comprehensive support available 24/7 during travels.
4. Post-Return Career Assistance: Continued support after the travel experience ends.

Each plan is designed by expert consultants with firsthand experience in studying abroad. The Dream Kana English program features unique pre-departure learning tailored to ensure students are job-ready within an astonishing 3.1 weeks of arriving at their destination. This outcome results from the personalized curricula developed by multinational instructors trained by Dream Kana.

With 24/7 local support and a strong emphasis on career planning, students are superbly positioned to navigate their new environments and achieve their career goals abroad. This relentless commitment to student-first solutions is what sets Dream Kana apart in the industry.

Celebrating with the Dream Kana Project

To commemoratively mark this vision, Jstyle has launched the Dream Kana Project (commonly referred to as “Dream Pro”), allowing selected participants the chance to experience free study abroad.

The unique offerings of “Zero Abroad” and “Zero Working Holiday” are designed to enhance English language and employment skills before participants set off. Many have successfully recouped their total study abroad expenses by promptly landing their desired jobs upon arrival, signaling a significant achievement.

As part of the project, participants will document their experiences and earnings as they embark on this journey to see how much they can earn and cover their study abroad costs.
