Make an Impact to Help Save Lives: Red Cross Partners with PAC-MAN!
The American Red Cross has launched a special campaign teaming up with Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. to celebrate the remarkable 45th anniversary of the iconic video game character PAC-MAN. This collaboration aims to encourage blood donations during the holiday season, a time when donations are crucial yet often decline due to various factors.
From November 17 to December 7, 2025, individuals who donate blood or platelets will receive exciting rewards: a unique pair of Red Cross x PAC-MAN socks and a custom Red Cross x PAC-MAN GASHAPON®. This limited-time offer is designed to attract both seasoned donors and new participants, making the act of giving blood not only beneficial for those in need but also a fun and memorable experience.
The Importance of Blood Donations
Blood and platelets are indispensable resources in medical emergencies. They are essential for accident victims, patients undergoing heart surgery, organ transplant surgeries, and those receiving treatment for serious illnesses like leukemia and cancer. Alarmingly, every two seconds someone in the U.S. requires a blood transfusion, emphasizing the critical need for a steady supply. The Red Cross strives to maintain an adequate blood supply, especially as the year comes to a close, when collection often drops due to people’s holiday plans and seasonal illnesses.
Darren Irby, the executive director of Brand and Partnerships at the Red Cross, highlights the challenges posed by this season: "The last two months of the year can complicate blood donation efforts. Our collaboration with PAC-MAN will hopefully inspire more people to donate during this vital time, when every donation counts."
A Nostalgic Celebration
Originally introduced as an arcade game in 1980, PAC-MAN has transcended generations and continues to capture the hearts of gamers worldwide. Its innovative gameplay and charming character have made it one of the most influential video game franchises in history. Over the decades, PAC-MAN has inspired numerous sequels, merchandise, and media adaptations, solidifying its place in the realm of pop culture.
The collaboration with the Red Cross not only honors PAC-MAN's legacy of bringing joy to players but also leverages its popularity to generate awareness about the ongoing demand for blood donations. Susan Tran, Sr. Director of Brand Development for PAC-MAN at Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc., stated, "PAC-MAN has always focused on connecting people and spreading joy. We are excited to partner with the Red Cross to promote the equally rewarding opportunity of saving lives through blood donation."
How to Participate
If you are interested in making a difference in someone’s life, reserving a blood donation appointment is easy. You can visit
RedCrossBlood.org, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Throughout November, successful donors can also receive free A1C testing to screen for pre-diabetes and diabetes, further incentivizing participation.
It's important to remember that all blood types are critical for ensuring a reliable supply for patients across various needs. Potential donors must be at least 17 years old in most states, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good health. High school students and individuals under 18 must meet specific height and weight requirements to qualify.
Every Drop Counts
The Red Cross is dedicated to strengthening community resilience by providing shelter, meals, and comfort to disaster victims, supplying approximately 40% of the nation's blood, and imparting life-saving skills.
