Exploring the World of Design: A Workshop Experience with CURIOSITY

On March 26, 2025, the Future Innovation Forum (FIF), a social contribution organization operated by Future Inc., alongside CURIOSITY, organized a unique workshop titled "Exploring the World of Design" at CURIOSITY's headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo. This inaugural event aimed to introduce young minds to the pivotal role of design in society and to immerse them in the joy of creation and expression through hands-on experiences.

The workshop welcomed nine participants from fifth to eighth grades, all selected through public recruitment. They engaged in learning about the role and functionality of design and participated in an exciting creative experience by making their own lamp shades using washi paper. Led by Nicolas Guenael, a French designer and CEO of CURIOSITY, the program illustrated the significance of shapes and functions in design through real-world examples such as uniquely shaped glasses and perfume bottles created by the company.

Guenael emphasized the importance of flexible and free thinking in design, and shared the allure of being a designer, including the opportunity to make an impact globally and the gratification of collaborating with others. During the hands-on creation segment, each participant conceptualized their lamp shade designs and consulted with the instructor to determine how to bring their creative ideas to life, receiving guidance along the way to finalize their projects. At the end of the session, all participants shared the themes and concepts behind their works and received valuable feedback from Guenael.

Students were eager to engage with Guenael, asking insightful questions such as, "What do you prioritize when designing?" and "How can one draw inspiration from daily life?" These interactions highlighted their genuine interest in design and creativity.
