SEGA Signs Publishing Deal with Manga Productions for Sonic Racing in the Middle East

In a significant development for the gaming industry in the Middle East, SEGA has announced a new publishing agreement with Manga Productions, a leading company in the region, to distribute the highly anticipated game, "Sonic Racing: Cross Worlds." This agreement aims at bringing the latest installment of the beloved Sonic franchise to fans in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Expect fresh marketing strategies and packaging tailored to the local audience, spearheaded by Manga Productions, headquartered in Saudi Arabia.

The game itself, originally developed by SEGA's arcade racing team, is being hailed as a next-generation kart racing experience. One of its standout features is a warp mechanic that transports players to unknown realms during their second lap, ensuring that no two races feel the same. Players will have the chance to race with an impressive roster of 23 characters at launch, with additional fan-favorites such as Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona 5, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza, and even characters from Minecraft and SpongeBob set to join the lineup in future updates.

Customization will also play a vital role in the gameplay, as players can leverage over 70 different "gadgets" to enhance their skills, making the races strategic and exciting. Moreover, the game will support cross-play, allowing up to 12 players to compete in various modes online, enhancing the competitive environment across platforms.

SEGA CEO Koshiji Utsumi expressed excitement about this partnership, emphasizing the strong popularity of Sonic in the Arab region. He noted that teaming up with a prominent local company like Manga Productions would bring Sonic closer to fans:

"We are delighted to collaborate with Manga Productions, a leading company in the Middle East, to deliver the latest Sonic series installment to the MENA region. Sonic is a character well-loved in the Arab world. By delegating the packaging and marketing to a local firm, we hope to create a more engaging experience for the fans, allowing them to feel a deeper connection to Sonic and our games."

Manga Productions' CEO, Ikhmal Abed, echoed Utsumi's sentiments, underscoring the rapid growth of the gaming market in Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East.

"The gaming market in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East is among the fastest-growing worldwide. Recently, Manga Productions has achieved success in producing, distributing, and licensing content. We are honored to partner with SEGA to publish this iconic Japanese game series overseas. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality content to fans in the region through our marketing and distribution efforts," he stated.

Adding another layer to this collaboration, Abdulaziz Alnagmoosh from Manga Productions' business development team highlighted the importance of video games to their overall business strategy.
"Video gaming is one of the pillars of our company, and through this partnership, we are excited to provide high-quality Sonic games to the Arab region. We hope this endeavor will strengthen the connection between the Arab and Japanese gaming industries, fostering mutual growth and advancement."
