Global Cyber Alliance Strengthens Cybersecurity Leadership
The Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) has taken a significant step towards enhancing Internet security by appointing Professor H Sama Nwana as its new Chair of the Board of Directors. In an era where cyber threats are escalating, jeopardizing economic stability and consumer trust, GCA’s mission to fortify the Internet's foundational security becomes ever more crucial.
Prof. Nwana’s leadership comes at a time when many organizations see cybersecurity simply as a technical hurdle. He believes it transcends that; it embodies public trust, economic resilience, and social stability. “GCA focuses on the aspects of the Internet that everyone depends on but few truly understand, aiding in preventing systemic failures before they happen,” he noted. His experience and vision are expected to propel GCA's initiatives forward.
Previous Chair, William Pelgrin, lauded the organization’s collaborative approach over the past decade. “The journey we've undertaken demonstrates that tangible progress in cybersecurity emerges from cooperation, rather than competition.” Prof. Nwana’s global perspective and adept policy insight are anticipated to guide GCA into its next decisive phase, especially as threats become increasingly intricate and widespread.
Under GCA’s purview are diverse programs addressing critical vulnerabilities in our digital ecosystem. They seek to secure small and medium-sized businesses while extending protective measures for vulnerable populations and emerging markets, ultimately aiming to mitigate cyber risks before they escalate into larger issues.
Interim CEO Brian Cute emphasized the intersection of technology, policy, and public welfare that GCA operates within, highlighting Prof. Nwana’s balancing act between commerce, communication, and civic responsibility. His decade-spanning expertise across telecommunications, media, and technology arms him with the insights necessary to propel solutions that protect people and organizations across various demographics.
Prof. Nwana, who leads Cenerva— a consultancy based in London— has advised governmental entities, regulatory bodies, and multinational companies in promoting inclusive digital economies. He previously held significant roles at Ofcom and was the founding CEO of the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance. Currently, he serves as a Full Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde, marking his commitment to educating others while sharing his extensive knowledge of the digital economy.
With this appointment, GCA underlines its unwavering commitment to securing the Internet as a public good. Their efforts are integral to ensuring that the Internet remains a safe, resilient, and accessible space for citizens, consumers, and organizations alike. Prof. Nwana’s leadership signals a proactive approach toward addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by cybersecurity, working towards a safer digital landscape for everyone.
As GCA moves forward under the guidance of Prof. H Sama Nwana, the organization aims not just to respond to current cyber threats but to establish a framework that anticipates future risks, solidifying its role as a pioneer in collective cybersecurity action. More information can be found at
