EPG Modular Data Center Reaches Topping-Out Milestone in Malaysia
EPG Modular Data Center recently celebrated a significant milestone at their construction site in Johor, Malaysia, with the topping-out ceremony for their new factory in the Malaysia Free Industrial Zone (FIZ). This development is a crucial part of their strategic initiative to strengthen production capabilities and enhance service delivery across Southeast Asia.
Important Milestone for EPG
On November 6, 2026, representatives from various sectors gathered to witness the completion of the facility’s final structural beam. This included key stakeholders from the Johor State Government, business partners, and financial institutions. The company’s founder and chairman, Alick Wan, highlighted the importance of this occasion as it marks a major advancement in EPG’s operational capabilities and increases their manufacturing base for modular data centers.
The factory is a substantial investment of approximately $120 million, covering an impressive area of 107,450 square meters, which includes 70,000 square meters designated for production. Upon its expected completion in the first quarter of 2027, it is projected to be one of the largest manufacturing facilities for modular data center modules in the region, fulfilling the growing demands of clients in the sector.
Factory Overview and Production Plans
EPG’s new factory will consist of five main buildings dedicated to specific operations, including sheet metal production, assembly of power transfer units, diesel generator manufacturing, and the final assembly of modular data centers. By employing over 800 individuals locally once fully operational, EPG aims to bolster local employment while improving responsiveness to customer projects in the region.
The facility is engineered to support flexible manufacturing and will incorporate advanced technology such as intelligent control systems, automated welding techniques, and comprehensive digital platforms for managing supplier relations and production processes. With an expected automation rate of at least 80%, the state-of-the-art production lines will facilitate efficient operations, ranging from pretreatment to dust-free coating processes.
Further, the integration of digital twin technology and intelligent sensing will enhance production visibility, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
Commitment to Sustainability and Local Partnerships
Beyond manufacturing capabilities, EPG aims to operate responsibly by prioritizing resource efficiency and minimizing waste. With a strong commitment to environmental protection, they plan to collaborate with local suppliers and partners, aligning their operations with Malaysian regulations and ESG principles. Their approach reflects a genuine dedication to local talent development and community engagement.
As Alick Wan stated, “The FIZ Factory marks an important step in bringing EPG's manufacturing capabilities closer to customers and the markets we serve.” By fostering strong local partnerships and leveraging innovations in manufacturing, EPG is poised to adapt and respond quickly to future market needs, positioning themselves as a leader in the data center solutions sector in Asia and beyond.
