Celebrating the First Experience with Deaf Sports at Hisamatsu Kindergarten

A Unique Experience at Hisamatsu Kindergarten

On October 9, 2025, the KEIAI Challenge Athletes Team organized a remarkable deaf sports experience event at Hisamatsu Kindergarten in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. This endeavor aimed to raise awareness about the upcoming Tokyo Deaflympics and serve as a foundational step in fostering disability awareness among young children. Notably, this initiative marked the first time an event like this was held at a kindergarten.

The event welcomed 40 children, all aged five, who enthusiastically participated in a variety of activities including gesture quizzes, color dribbling, and simple games, guided by prominent athletes from the KEIAI Challenge Athletes Team. The roster included notable members such as Nana Kawabata, Ai Iwabuchi, Kana Shoji, and their coach, Yoshiki Yamamoto.

Under the theme of "You can communicate even without words,” children engaged in fun, interactive quizzes that encouraged them to use gestures to convey answers, allowing them to experience the vibrant world of deaf sports. The event was filled with laughter and excitement, especially when the children took on the challenge of posing their own quizzes, leading to humorous inaccuracies and joyful expressions all around. During the color dribbling activity, the children quickly learned sign language to signify colors, underscoring the importance of following rules and nurturing concentration. This engaging experience was not just entertaining, but also educational, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with hearing impairments.

Fostering Understanding and Coexistence from a Young Age

As the first Tokyo Deaflympics approaches in November 2025, the necessity for societal awareness regarding deaf sports and individuals with hearing impairments has become more apparent. Introducing children to concepts of disability and diversity at such a young age lays the foundation for a more inclusive society.

Conducting this event at Hisamatsu Kindergarten was a pioneering venture for the KEIAI group, and the organization aims to continue developing similar programs tailored to various age groups in the future.

Looking Ahead

The KEIAI group remains committed to promoting deaf and para sports, as well as enhancing understanding of disabilities through ongoing events and experiential activities. By collaborating with local communities and educational institutions, KEIAI seeks to contribute to the creation of a society where everyone can shine through sports.
