Partnership Between LG Energy Solution Vertech and Qcells to Generate 5GWh of Energy Storage by 2030

In a significant advancement for the renewable energy sector, LG Energy Solution Vertech has joined forces with Qcells to deliver 5GWh of energy storage projects across the United States from 2028 to 2030. This collaborative effort aims to implement reliable and efficient lithium-ion energy storage systems that cater to utility-scale projects, thus fulfilling the increasing demand for clean energy and bolstering domestic manufacturing.

The partnership not only emphasizes the importance of American-made products but also aligns with U.S. domestic content requirements. Both companies have committed to utilizing locally produced components; LG Energy Solution's energy storage products are manufactured in Michigan, while Qcells produces its solar panels in Georgia. Chris Hodrick, CEO of Qcells EPC, expressed pride in this collaboration, highlighting how it showcases the potential of energy development that champions U.S. manufacturing. "This partnership demonstrates our collective commitment to bolstering American jobs while providing economical and dependable power to local communities,” he stated. The Qcells facility in Dalton, Georgia, is currently the largest solar panel manufacturing site in the U.S., and the company is actively expanding its operations with an additional factory in Cartersville. Once fully operational, Qcells is projected to produce solar panels at a rate of around 8.4 gigawatts annually, enough energy to power over 1.3 million homes each year.

As part of this multi-year commitment, LG Energy Solution Vertech will also offer lifecycle services to ensure the longevity and efficiency of the energy storage systems. Jaehong Park, CEO and President of LG Energy Solution Vertech, emphasized the importance of long-term partnerships with customers, assuring that their commitment to assisting energy storage programs remains strong. He recognized that such collaborations are crucial for the success of energy projects and are foundational for improvements within the energy grid.

The energy storage systems being deployed are built with advanced containerized lithium-ion battery solutions featuring LFP cells that are manufactured in the U.S. LG Energy Solution is currently ramping up production capacities, with plans to manufacture up to 16.5 GWh of battery energy storage cells in Holland, Michigan, potentially increasing to approximately 50 GWh by the end of 2026.
