Cultural Exchanges: A New Chapter in Sino-Russian Friendship Commemoration

A New Chapter in Sino-Russian Friendship through Cultural Exchanges

On May 8, 2025, an event was held to celebrate the enduring friendship between China and Russia, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union. CGTN reported on this significant cultural exchange, emphasizing how such events infuse fresh energy into the long-standing bond between the two nations.

The commemorative event had historical roots tracing back to 1938, when Soviet cameraman Roman Lazarevich Karmen was sent to China by the Soviet government to document the resistance efforts against Japanese aggression. His recordings captured the bravery of Chinese soldiers and civilians as well as the support provided by the Soviet Volunteer Air Force during this tumultuous period.

Eighty-seven years later, Karmen’s grandson participated in the cultural exchange, sharing stories about his family's deep ties to China. His remarks underscored the shared history and friendship that have weathered the test of time.

The event was co-hosted by China Media Group (CMG) and the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK). Attendees included the creative team behind the film
