Nexteer Automotive's Latest Innovation: High Output Electric Power Steering Technology

Nexteer Automotive Unveils High-Output Column-Assist Electric Power Steering

Nexteer Automotive has recently announced a significant enhancement to its steering technology portfolio with the introduction of the High-Output Column-Assist Electric Power Steering (HO CEPS). This cutting-edge innovation not only reinforces Nexteer's reputation for driving advancements in the steering sector but also provides Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with an unprecedented level of flexibility. It allows them to optimize key elements such as performance, cost, scalability, and development speed across a vast array of vehicle platforms.

Expanding Capabilities with High Output CEPS

Traditionally, Column-Assist Electric Power Steering (CEPS) has been employed predominantly in smaller vehicles such as compact cars and entry-level electric vehicles. This new HO CEPS model pushes beyond these boundaries, boasting a steering assist capacity that extends to 110 Nm. Compared to Nexteer’s standard CEPS, which manages between 40-95 Nm, the HO version ensures that even larger and heavier vehicles—typically reliant on more complicated EPS systems—can maintain efficiency without compromising on performance.

By raising the torque levels and load-handling potential, HO CEPS guarantees that vehicle steering remains precise and responsive, all while enhancing fuel or battery efficiency. This improvement means that OEMs can now consider manufacturing larger models without the associated increase in costs or complexity linked to premium steering systems.

Diversified Steering Solutions for OEM Adaptability

The advent of HO CEPS marks a transformative step for Nexteer’s product lineup, which now includes a complete suite of high-output electric power steering options. This suite encompasses different configurations:
  • - Single Pinion EPS
  • - Dual Pinion EPS
  • - Rack-Assist EPS

Nexteer’s strategy isn’t just about expanding capacity; it’s also about offering a modular approach that allows OEMs to customize their solutions based on specific vehicle requirements and market needs. This flexibility enables OEMs to efficiently manage their development timelines, ensuring quicker adaptations to consumer demands.

Innovative Features and Safety Mechanisms

Nexteer’s High Availability EPS is designed with onboard redundancies, assuring a safety net that is perpetually functional. This is especially crucial in scenarios where vehicle automation is increasing, and reliable steering assistance is a necessity. Other advanced features such as steer-by-wire systems and rear-wheel steering designs add to the unique capabilities of their steering technology; they not only enhance vehicle performance but also encourage new cockpit innovations.

The unit's integration capabilities mean that OEMs can leverage Nexteer’s pioneering technology to create tailored solutions that effectively address diverse application challenges—promoting enhanced performance, safety, and system adaptability.

The Future of Mobility

Nexteer’s commitment to steering innovation is evidenced by its ability to balance various priorities—cost, performance, and speed of development.

"With the launch of our High-Output CEPS, Nexteer is spearheading advancements in steering innovation. This enables OEMs to enhance every aspect of vehicle production while adapting to a constantly evolving landscape," stated Robin Milavec, the President, Chief Technology Officer, and Executive Board Director of Nexteer Automotive.

Nexteer will showcase its High-Output CEPS at the upcoming Auto Shanghai event from April 23 to May 2, 2025, where attendees can get a firsthand look at the latest in steering solutions.
