Rochester Regional Health Launches Innovative Loan Program
Rochester Regional Health (RRH) has taken a significant step towards enhancing access to critical healthcare services by unveiling a targeted student-loan support program. This initiative is designed to fortify the clinical workforce in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region, specifically for roles that are vital to maintaining efficient surgical and diagnostic services.
In partnership with Clasp, RRH aims to support aspiring Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), Radiologic Technologists, and Surgical Technologists as they embark on their educational journeys. By alleviating financial burdens through student-loan repayment assistance, the program seeks to create clearer pathways to employment, enabling students to commit to serving their community post-graduation.
Dr. Charlene J. Wilson, RRH’s Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "This program is a strategic investment in the future stability of care for our community." She noted that by fostering local talent to train and remain within the Rochester area, RRH is enhancing access to the essential services that patients depend on while being responsible in managing resources amid the rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
The program provides substantial financial support—up to
$180,000 in student-loan repayment assistance for eligible CRNAs, while Surgical Technology and Radiologic Technology graduates can avail of up to
$30,000 and
$25,000 respectively. Students can apply for this support while still in school, secure employment commitments prior to graduation, and start receiving structured assistance as they join the Rochester Regional Health team.
As the nation faces significant shortages in anesthesia providers and imaging professionals, particularly in rural and underserved areas, this program emphasizes long-term workforce development. By building a reliable pipeline of trained professionals, RRH ensures it meets the increasing demand for surgical care, emergency services, and medical imaging.
Tess Michaels, CEO of Clasp, expressed pride in the partnership's community-centric approach to workforce development. "By supporting clinicians at the start of their training and careers, Rochester Regional Health is bolstering New York's healthcare workforce, guaranteeing that patients receive the necessary care close to home," she remarked.
This program is a valuable addition to RRH’s existing clinical education and workforce strategies. With various initiatives already in place, including the Rochester General College of Health Careers—which offers accredited Surgical Technology and Radiologic Technology programs—the organization is proactively addressing current and future healthcare staffing challenges and reducing reliance on temporary labor.
