Application Support for Accommodation Tax System Grant in Tokyo
Starting from May 21, a new financial supporting program has been announced for accommodation providers in Tokyo. This initiative is crucial for anyone managing lodgings as it provides an opportunity to acquire funds to modernize their tax systems related to temporary accommodation taxes. The welfare of the tourism sector continues to be a priority, and this grant aims to assist businesses in adopting digital solutions.
The program, running from May 18, 2026, to March 31, 2027, allows eligible entities to receive up to 2 million yen, covering two-thirds of the applicable expenses (subsidy rate). The funds can be used for both new system installations and for updating existing systems that aid in collecting and processing accommodation tax data.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- - Operate an accommodation facility within Tokyo.
- - Be registered as a special collector of accommodation tax (or intend to apply).
- - Be considered a small or medium-sized enterprise as defined by the Small and Medium Enterprise Basic Act, or an individual business owner.
- - Have at least one branch or head office inside Tokyo and have been operating in the accommodation industry for a minimum of one year as of April 1, 2026.
Grant Covered Costs
The following expenses are eligible for this grant:
- - Costs related to the installation and setup of new systems compliant with accommodation tax collection.
- - Expenses for modifying existing systems to handle accommodation tax calculations, data collection, and printing receipts.
- - Required hardware and software purchases associated with system adjustments.
Funding Cap and Rates
The government subsidy covers two-thirds of the eligible expenses, with a maximum limit of 2 million yen per business or 500,000 yen per facility. The qualifying expense period for the subsidy is from March 27, 2026, to July 31, 2027.
