Royal Park Hotels Launches ECO PROJECT 2025
Mitsubishi Estate Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., based in Minato, Tokyo, is spearheading the ECO PROJECT 2025 under the Royal Park Hotels brand, aimed at promoting sustainable practices. As temperatures have soared across Japan since June, with a growing demand for electricity, the hotels have devised various eco-friendly initiatives to keep guests comfortable without over-relying on air conditioning. These efforts include the traditional Japanese method of "uchimizu" (water sprinkling), electricity-saving measures across all hotels, and the provision of convenient cooling items for guests.
The ECO PROJECT 2025 aligns with two critical Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 7, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, and Goal 13, which advocates for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Embracing the Tradition of Uchimizu
The Royal Park Hotels will once again incorporate the time-honored practice of uchimizu, which allows for cooling without the use of electricity. This Japanese tradition involves sprinkling water on the ground during early mornings or late afternoons to lower temperatures. Guests staying at selected hotels can also participate in this refreshing activity as part of their stay.
Energy Conservation Initiatives
With concerns about electricity shortages this summer, especially during peak demand hours in the evenings, all hotels will jointly implement energy-saving measures. Specifically, they will raise the air conditioning temperature settings in public spaces, including lobbies and front desks, by 1°C. This change can lead to a 10% reduction in energy consumption, a significant step towards sustainability. On August 1, coinciding with the "Energy Conservation Inspection Day," a special energy-saving effort will take place from 5 PM to 6 PM.
Gifts of Coolness for Hotel Guests
From August 1 to August 3, visitors to Royal Park Hotels will receive complimentary sustainable cooling items as a part of this initiative. The hand fans, made from eco-friendly bamboo, showcase a blend of artistic craftsmanship and environmental consciousness. The first 100 guests at each hotel (200 at the Royal Park Hotel) will receive these gifts upon checking in, allowing them to enjoy a refreshing breeze as they embrace the summer heat.
