The IPSOS 2025 Study by Fondazione Maire: Insights into Global Energy Transition
Insights from the IPSOS 2025 Study by Fondazione Maire
The Fondazione Maire, in collaboration with the renowned market research firm IPSOS, recently conducted a comprehensive study titled "Climate Goals: Overcoming the Challenge of Climate Objectives through Skill Development Globally." The 2025 edition of this study sheds new light on the worldwide transition towards sustainable energy, featuring insights from over 2,300 interviews conducted across 14 countries on four continents.
Key Survey Findings
One of the key highlights of this study is India's prominent position in terms of public awareness regarding energy transition strategies. An impressive 63% of Indian respondents reported being highly familiar with the concept of energy transition, with 70% prioritizing it as a significant objective. Moreover, India showcased a notable commitment to implementing decarbonization strategies, boasting a remarkable 71% of participants indicating their intent to support efforts in this area.
In contrast, Kazakhstan and Argentina ranked lower in familiarity with energy transition, at only 29% and 36% respectively. Argentina, despite having a high overall awareness rate (97%), showed that only 34% considered the energy transition as a national priority, underscoring a significant gap between knowledge and action.
The study also introduced two additional countries to the panel: Qatar and Argentina. Qatar, known for its substantial investments in renewable energy, showed a high public awareness of 95% regarding energy transition. Furthermore, 67% of Qatari respondents regarded this shift as a national priority, emphasizing the alignment between public perception and government action toward sustainable energy.
Skills Required for Energy Transition
The study identifies the essential skills required to facilitate a successful transition. Technical competencies in renewable energy technologies and sustainable practices are critical, alongside interpersonal skills such as problem-solving, adaptability, and critical thinking. These competencies are necessary for navigating the dynamic challenges associated with the energy transition.
Fabrizio Di Amato, President of Fondazione Maire, emphasized that the transition is an irreversible process, with environmental and economic benefits recognized globally. He noted that with appropriate investments in both hard and soft skills, countries could greatly enhance their competitive edge in the evolving energy landscape.
Regional Perspectives
Across various regions, challenges and opportunities regarding the energy transition differ significantly. In Qatar, investments in renewable energy are creating jobs, whereas a growing concern exists over job losses in traditional sectors. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan grapples with fears that the costs of transitioning to renewable energy may outweigh its benefits, while Saudi Arabia is more optimistic about short-term gains from transition efforts.
Countries like China and Chile are advocating for the enhancement of training programs focused on energy transition, stressing the urgent need to update educational curricula. In addition, nations such as Azerbaijan are keen on developing technical skills while promoting knowledge of environmental impact assessments and renewable sources.
Conclusion
The IPSOS 2025 study highlights the diverse perspectives on energy transitions worldwide. While nations like India and Qatar demonstrate proactive approaches, others such as Kazakhstan and Argentina reveal substantial room for improvement. The need for skilled professionals equipped with both technical and interpersonal skills is critical as countries aim to meet their climate goals.
The findings from the Fondazione Maire provide a framework for understanding and addressing local and global challenges associated with the energy transition, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and skill development as we move toward a sustainable future.
