Supporting Intellectually Disabled Sports
This tournament serves as a vital platform, aiming for a society where everyone walks together regardless of disabilities. It brings passion, connection, and inspiration through sport, promoting recognition and support for intellectually disabled athletes. Currently, among the 22 Paralympic sports, only three allow for the participation of those with intellectual disabilities, highlighting ongoing challenges in recognition and equitable opportunity.
At Hands Holdings, our journey with intellectually disabled softball began with a visit to a support school in Sendai, where we encountered the challenges faced by the sport. This triggered our mission to broaden the understanding and support for this community, leading us to organize such competitions as part of our commitment to inclusivity.
Future Initiatives
The Hands Holdings Cup symbolizes our dedication to advancing the cause of intellectually disabled sports. Following the national competition, we plan to host Eastern Japan tournaments biennially, and we aim to extend our involvement further into international goodwill matches. Our ambition is to promote awareness and enhance support structures for disabled para-sports.
