Braskem and Katoen Natie Collaborate on Singapore Warehouse Project

Braskem and Katoen Natie Unite for a Strategic Warehouse Project in Singapore

On November 27th, Braskem, the leading polyolefins manufacturer in the Americas and a pioneer in industrial-scale biopolymer production, announced a collaboration with Katoen Natie, a global logistics and engineering firm headquartered in Belgium. This partnership focuses on a new warehouse project in Singapore, which aims to streamline logistics services from storage to port operations, particularly for petrochemical and specialty chemical sectors.

Braskem established its presence in Southeast Asia in 2011, setting up operations in Singapore to tap into the region's growing market. In 2018, the company commenced polymer sales to meet the demand in the Asia-Pacific region. Further electrifying its growth trajectory, Braskem opened a representative office in Tokyo in 2023, backed by more than fifteen years of sustainable solutions offered in the Japanese market. That same year, Braskem formed a joint venture with SCG Chemicals called Braskem Siam, which focuses on the production of bioethanol-derived bioethylene and the commercialization of I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene at a dedicated plant in Thailand. This initiative is currently progressing towards the Final Investment Decision (FID).

This latest warehouse project aims to reinforce Braskem's presence in Southeast Asia, facilitating shorter transportation routes for customers of I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene and EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate). Katoen Natie's role will be crucial in optimizing logistics performance, lead times, and inventory levels to improve supply chain efficiency.

Roger Marquioni, Director of Asia Olefins & Polyolefins and Global Business Director for I’m green™ at Braskem, stated, "Expanding our business base in Asia is instrumental in strengthening existing partnerships and deepening relationships within the regional markets. This partnership significantly contributes to our supply chain optimization and supports the production of bio-based products for customers around the world."

Katoen Natie operates in over 36 countries across five continents, boasting extensive experience in the sustainable handling of petrochemical products and a successful logistics hub in Singapore. Braskem continues to offer sustainable products, including I’m green™ bio-based offerings, alongside traditional products to customers across Asia. Their sustainable solutions represent an alternative to conventional plastic materials and are versatile for various applications. Products like I’m green™ are made from renewable resources such as sugarcane, which play a critical role in reducing carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, these products can be recycled through standard processes without requiring special treatments.
