Eco Wave Power Partners with Bharat Petroleum to Harness India's Wave Energy Potential
In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Eco Wave Power Global AB recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) during India Energy Week 2025 held in New Delhi. This partnership seeks to tap into India's estimated 40,000 MW wave energy potential, positioning wave energy as a key player in the country’s renewable energy strategy. The agreement was signed by key figures in the industry, including Mr. Chandrasekhar N, Head of R&D at BPCL, and Ms. Inna Braverman, Founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power, with the presence of Honorable Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and BPCL's Chairman Mr. G. Krishnakumar.
BPCL, recognized as a Fortune 500 oil and gas titan with a market capitalization of roughly $12 billion, has identified Eco Wave Power as its strategic partner after careful consideration of various wave energy technologies. This collaboration resonates with India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), which highlights ocean energy as a viable renewable resource that has yet to be fully harnessed along the Indian coastline.
The MoU paves the way for BPCL’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040, expanding its renewable projects portfolio. Initially, the partnership will kick off with a feasibility study, which will include deploying a 100 kW pilot project at BPCL’s Mumbai Oil Terminals, eventually leading to commercial-scale wave energy installations across India. BPCL will take on responsibilities related to regulatory approvals, permits, and land use consents, while Eco Wave Power will contribute its patented wave energy conversion technology and research capabilities to enhance power generation efficiency.
CEO Inna Braverman described this collaboration as a transformative opportunity for Eco Wave Power, asserting that with over 250 million people living along India’s extensive coastline, the potential for proficient wave energy utilization is exceptionally promising. She stressed that this agreement marks a notable advancement towards mainstreaming wave energy within India’s transition to cleaner energy.
In conjunction with the signing event, Eco Wave Power's innovative wave energy generation model was showcased at the Net Zero pavilion at India Energy Week 2025. This display offered industry leaders and policymakers a closer look at the technology's capabilities and its relevance in addressing climate change.
Furthermore, Braverman is set to present at the 9th Annual Global Business Summit (GBS) on February 14-15, 2025, in New Delhi, where she will elaborate on the expansive possibilities of wave energy in India. Organized by The Times Group, GBS draws participation from significant global influencers, including India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The venture aligns tightly with Eco Wave Power's mission of facilitating the global transition to renewable energy by leveraging its advanced, cost-efficient technology. As they expand their footprint internationally, Eco Wave Power is also preparing for projects at the Port of Los Angeles, Taiwan, and Portugal, all of which contribute to an impressive portfolio totaling 404.7 MW.
This development illustrates not just a collaboration between two major entities but also serves as a harbinger for India’s energy future—a collective stride towards maximizing the country’s abundant renewable resources. With increasing demand for clean energy, this partnership will likely yield robust advancements in India’s green energy landscape, establishing a sustainable rhythmic energy generation mode that capitalizes on the relentless ocean waves.
